GTA IV Syndrome

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 1:39 am

GTAIV is a shell of it's former self. It was one of my most anticipated games ever and I followed development very closely. People that complain about TES being dumbed down need to look at San Andreas and then look at GTAIV. You'll then realize what "dumbing down" is all about.

I agree. As a fan of San Andreas (and Vice City), I was very disappointed with GTA IV. I doubt that Skyrim will follow the same path of dumbing down.

I don't think that the removal of attributes is "dumbing down" in any way. You now directly increase health, stamina, and magicka. This requires actual thought and consideration; whereas, these stats were calculated for us before. Therefore, I think this new system is more complex and gives us greater control over our characters. Stats like encumbrance and magicka regeneration will probably be invisibly calculated from our levels of health, stamina, and magicka. Skills are still increased through use, which has been a fundamental and unique feature for the Elder Scrolls series since Daggerfall.

I believe your statement to be factuality incorrect.

I think you shouldn't worry, Bethesda is a generous and great developer and is willing to support modding openly. (Many other devs simply deny the existence of a modding community or cut them off all together)

And modding will solve any problem you have with the game. So it will not, better said... it CANNOT disappoint.

PS: I am assuming you are buying Skyrim for the PC, and not for the PS3 like you did with GTA IV.

I adored GTA IV. Tell me of any other game on console title that let 16 players operate in an open world online at the same time. THQ still cant get it right even after all these years. Red dead was even better in fact you could call it the spiritual successor to GTAIV MP. technically rockstar is light years ahead of everyone with that engine and euphoria physics. If IV disappointed you then your expectations were set to high. The multi player alone was worth the GTA name sake, not counting the epic story.

Ummm, I know I'm out of the loop, but what's GTA IV? Is it a TES spin-off?

Grand Theft Auto 4. It was heavily dumbed down from San Andreas.

San andreas was one of the most vapid, idiotic games I ever played(it was however very fun) dumbing down from it was pretty much impossible

I think R* made a huge comeback with Red Dead though. Still my favorite game to date. Although i think Skyrim has the potential to beat it on my scale.

All the character animations and interactions made "dumbing down" worth it. Never has a game come to portraying New York better. I cant wait for V,they proved with red dead that they can put all that stuff including mini games into MP so it is going to be awesome. Also there is a reason they removed flying planes.(you all know why and it had nothing to do with dumbing down anything.)

They cut out a lot of features they need to add back in V. Since we're going back to San Andreas I have confidence the series will return to what it once was.

Yep. Hard to believe we live in a time where skyrim, uncharted and many other games come out all near each other. Let's remember these days. :celebration:

I should do the same because I completely over-hyped for Halo: Reach and although it was a good game I didn't play it for a LONG time when Black Ops came out. So I really hope this doesn't happen with Skyrim.
