GTA IV Syndrome

I doubt they go back to the akimbo and weird plot stuff. It's a shame they catch so much [censored] from the mainstream media, leaves less room to grow content and story wise.

You're going to be disappointed then. Sorry.

They've released no info on the game, so neither of us know do we

I'm fine if the add all the airplanes and stuff from sa, but it shouldn't be as ridiculous as sa. Obviously a big part of gta is satire but half of the stuff in sa was just stupid. Like fat cj I mean come on it added nothing to the game, and the story for sa was pretty awful aswell. I just feel adding loads of pointless crap will detract from time they could spend creating a brilliant story and detailed immersive world. If they have time to add lots of features fine but don't turn the game into a farce

I seen on kotaku when they were doing the research for LA noir, some of the research locations had nothing to do with the game and were on the other side of LA. So thats a tid-bit on top of the casting calls and website domains for san andreas business's.

Good point, and the same had occured to me also. I've never been so excited about a game and don't want to spoil too much for myself. I played oblivion before I'd even heard of TES and as a result it was a great surprise for me.

But as was the case with gta, it's how good it's predecessor was that made IV a disappointment.

Sweet! If the location is announced as anything another than San Andreas i'd be shocked.

Cool we have different opinions, I just prefer gta 4s more serious tone to the more ridiculous tone of sa

I will be doing this with ME3, as they gave out way too much info before ME2 shipped (or the forums were able to deduce too much) that it ruined alot of the surprises and fun of the game. But I've never really played TES games for the story lines, so I won't be doing that for this game.

My only problems with GTA IV were that it lacked the flying vehicles, awesome cheats (one of the best parts of GTA, in my opinion), and some of the customization options of San Andreas, but I've never really cared much for GTA games, in general. I just like to wait until they're cheap, buy them, and mess around in the gameworld.

Cash for broken dreams was one of the domains. You can google them if you like. Every gta has a theme IV's was being a foreigner in america after post terrorism fears on top of the 20 or so other themes. I bet this tackles the border wars and leads into mexico at some point.

What if someone wanted a fat CJ, or a skinny CJ or a muscular CJ? It isn't pointless to them. The game didn't force you to have a fat CJ. If you didn't like that feature at all you could've just avoided it by not consuming food.

As for the story, SA was more a series of events than a storyline, which is what the GTA series is about in my opinion. It doesn't need a really well-written, dramatic storyline. As long as the game has some interesting characters, fun gameplay in an interesting setting and enjoyable missions, that's all it needs.

GTA IV made some steps forward in terms of creating an immersive world. Things in SA like seeing dozens of identical people walking around definitely needed to be changed. However Liberty City for the most part was an empty shell. It was nice to look at but felt very hollow. Given the smaller scale of Liberty City and lack of diversity compared to San Andreas, I kind've expected to be able to enter and explore a lot of buildings.

I think red dead is perfect example of where they are heading with the tone of their games. Serious detailed worlds with lots of content and activities with a robust MP addition. Also who says they cant be campy too look at undead nightmare. Rockstar knows what there doing.

I don't really play gta games for a customisable character (tes is for that) I just think development time could be spent making a more varied world as you say and allowing players to enter more buildings but whatever I
won't be bothered if they add all that stuff back in but
I don't think they will it doesn't seem to be the route they are going down

Seeing as "gay tony" added tanks crazy guns, sky diving and a serious story. I think they know what the people want and can and will deliver the best game possible.

its like having a gf or a bf

keep your expectations low or moderate and you won't be disappointed and don't take take take, give and take is the best approach..... what do I mean! well example:

Giving the game: oh look its a glitch in the texture in that corner I will IGNORE IT

Taking from the game: the quest is awsome I will enjoy it

Giving the game: That flower is growing through the rock I will IGNORE IT

..etc etc

I had big expectations for age of conan, I think the problem is all the "this is what I want in The game" threads. People let there imaginations run wild. I'd rather see some new screenshots once in a while and a little info here and there. I'd rather learn most of what's in the game by playing it. If they tell us, and show us everything there is to know about skyrim then there's no point in playing it.

GTAIV is a shell of it's former self. It was one of my most anticipated games ever and I followed development very closely. People that complain about TES being dumbed down need to look at San Andreas and then look at GTAIV. You'll then realize what "dumbing down" is all about.

WHOA, dumbed down? Well, i guess i see where you get the dumbed down from (but i do disagree to an extent), gta 4 was a huge advancement from SA. The story was more serious, and the technology behind the game is still the best i've seen in any game. Remember GTA 2? The birds view style game? That had helicopters and all kinds of stuff that was not present in gta 3 (the 3rd person style game). My point is, rockstar forgets about all the additional stuff when a huge technological advancement is involved. In dlc, rockstar brought back the most missed things from SA, and i bet in the future gta, they will return even more stuff that was missing from SA.

Who in the world played GTA games looking for a 'deep story'??? Um, isn't that what RPGs like TES are for? I think someone has their expectations/priorities totally backwards.

Yes, GTA: SA had some silly features, but it also had a ton of great features. Personally I loved the car customization and was sorely disappointed when it was missing in IV. To me GTA games were about open worlds where you can do crazy stuff that you would never do in the real world. Like jack cars and get in huge shoot outs and car chases with cops. GTA IV was more like a RPG with a great story, no character customization, no leveling, no looting or epic gear to aspire too.

GTA IV was a great game, but I wouldn't call it a great GTA game. San Andreas was a great GTA game.

My first experience with TES was Oblivion. And I thought/think its an epic game. The level of content is simply ridiculous. The character customization is fantastic. Having full voice acting blew me away and really adds to the immersion. I do agree the leveling mechanism could have been better but I am certainly not going to get hung up about it.

I simply expect Skyrim to be similiar to Oblivion in a lot of ways and different where the Devs deem it needs to be. I wont overload myself with news and speculation. And I most likely will not get the game as soon as it's released. No doubt it will have some glitches or issues that will hopefully be worked out in a timely manner and then maybe I'll pick it up.

Oblivion is already the GTA IV to Morrowind's San Andreas.

GTA IV was not dumbed down by any means it just wasnt a fun game. Too much focus on to tell a "serious" story and being mature, that they forgot all about gameplay in my opinion. San Andreas was fun, Vice City was a blast!

Vice City Was my favorite. San Andreas just had to much "dead" territory for my taste... and IV... ugghh. I've got real friends I can go hang out with at the bar. I'll be damned if I want to hang out throwing darts and bowling in a virtual world... what the hell was R* thinking..

That being said if I want crass humor and shallow mindless co-op fun I'll get Saints Rown the Third. Lots of Customizable fun to be had as well. That being said R* nor Volition can handle Bethesda's scope. BUT at least Volition listens to their fanbase. Wich is really cool
