Hello,
I just bought a Nvidia GTS 450 to replace my ATI 4550, and I must say everything runs very smooth (I have a 850 watt black widow PSU), however, after playing for a bit, maybe 5-10 minutes I hear it start revving up inside the case, so much that it will vibrate my desk. When I log out it goes away. It will do this in all my games. Any ideas why?
The vibration is from the fan being out of balance. The noise is the fan speeding up to deal with the card's waste heat. You jumped past most of the Mainline medium ranks, from the top part of Business Graphics, to the high border between Mainline and High End. For quiet, your choice would have been AMD's Radeon 5550, a year newer version of what you had before, or the GT430. If you bought a name brand graphics card with a warranty, from a reputable dealer, you can swap it for one with a properly balanced fan, but there is still going to be some noise -- that's just part of performance.
