gtx 260 sli flicker issue and fps fixed (for now)

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 7:44 am

Guys:

Here's how I'm able to get 60+ fps (extreme, 1920x1080, no vsync) in the TRAIN TO CATCH level.

My setup:

PC
Q9650 @ 3.7
XFX 750i nForce
8GB DDR2 800
Coolmax 1000W PSU
Forceware 266.58
EVGA SLI Enhancement v38
SLI update v7_267.24
2 EVGA GTX 260 SLI
(EVGA Precision 732, 1578, 1233, 80)

1. the pair of GTX 260s are OC'd using EVGA Precision. The speeds are listed above.
2. Install the 266.58 driver (change sli rendering mode to force alternate frame rendering 2 in Nvidia Control Panel)
3. Apply the EVGA sli_enhancement version 38
4. Apply the Nvidia SLI_update_v7_267.24.exe
5. Use Crysis2AdvancedGraphicsOptions.exe configured to Extreme; here is my autoexec.bat and system.cfg

Here is my autoexec.bat (notice that sys_spec_postprocessing is commented out. This fixes the flicker issue)

sys_spec_shading=4
sys_spec_gameeffects=4
sys_spec_objectdetail=4
sys_spec_particles=4
sys_spec_physics=4
;sys_spec_postprocessing=2
sys_spec_shadows=4
sys_spec_sound=4
sys_spec_texture=4
sys_spec_water=4
g_skipIntro=1
cl_fov=55
pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=55
i_mouse_accel=0
i_mouse_accel_max=100
i_mouse_smooth=0
r_motionblur=0
g_radialBlur=1
cl_zoomToggle=0
r_UseEdgeAA=3
r_TexMaxAnisotropy=16
r_PostMSAA=2
cl_crouchtoggle=0
r_ColorGrading=1
r_SSAO=1
r_VSync=0
e_shadows=1
g_enableInitialLoginScreen=0
r_HDRBloomMul=0
r_HDRBrightLevel=0
r_FSAA=1
r_MultiGPU=1
g_useHitSoundFeedback=0

Here is my system.cfg (notice multigpu is 1)

; crysis2
sys_game_folder=GameCrysis2
sys_dll_game=CryGameCrysis2.dll
sys_user_folder=Crysis2
r_ShaderCompilerServer=192.168.14.180;192.168.14.181
log_IncludeTime = 1
sys_languages = "english,french,spanish,german,turkish,russian,polish,italian,czech,japanese,chineseT"
log_verbosity = 0
r_MultiGPU = 1
sys_PakLogInvalidFileAccess=0
sys_float_exceptions=0
g_language = English
con_restricted = 0
r_displayinfo = 1
sys_MaxFPS = 999

This gameplay is flicker-free and pushes each GPU at more or less equivalent percentages. Hope this helps.

I was getting a ton of artifacts as well so I used GpuTool to determine the max settings for the paired cards. This is what I'm running now: 671, 1278 Memory, 1447 shader (linked). These settings were determined to be the max by GPUtool and passed a 3 hour stability test.

I have not experienced the fps lag since moving to these new settings. This leads me to believe my previous settings were too high and its possible one or both of the cards shut down due to load, leaving me CPU-only during the game. This MAY explain single digit fps. FWIW, its fixed.

i actually had worse problems with flickering...my entire HUD was flashing and it was not even playable. Obviously there is work left to be done with SLI here, but I posted my work in the hopes it would benefit someone else. I just kept trolling the forums until I found the fixes that worked for me. :/

edit: I'm running the beta 270.51 driver at the moment....

Just curious but can't you guys with the SLI bug just disable SLI for the game until a fix is announced? I use a Gainward Golden Sample GTX 260 and can run the game maxed out. I used to use SLI before and it was quite easy to disable\enable it. I know you don't want to do that and would rather have it working but is it not an option for you to get rid of the flicker?

No it's not an option for me since I want to play on my 3screen surround set up at 5760x1080 resolution. That needs SLI unfortunately.

That's like going to the doctor and saying "It hurts when I move my arm this way" And having him tell you "Well how about you stop moving your arm like that? There cured!"

BEFORE i got my issues fixed, it would have been fine to disable SLI. The second card was only running at about 20-30% and I DID NOT HAVE the flickering issue. I introduced that issue once I got SLI configured properly. Now, I haven't experienced the flicker issue with my current config.

Ok just wondering. I guess in that resolution you need it. I had a flickering problem with SLI once and temporarily cured it by removing the SLI bridge. Sorry you are having problems hope it gets addressed soon :)
