Couldn't afford 6690 model XD but the 5870 hits pretty hard. Radeon all the way.

According to benchmarks they are within 1% performance of each other overall. Some games AMD does better with and others Nvidia. The 590GTX runs hotter, but the 6990 runs louder.

I've only got a 5670, but then again I can still run crysis 2 on max =p Thinking of upgrading soon, maybe a 6870 or something.

Guess I should say something 6990 related... 6990> 560. There we go, now you cant accuse me of not being a team player!

I am an Nvidia fanboy (the only AMD/ATI card I have ever used is the onboard one on my old hp.), but I would have to (sadly) agree, the GTX 590 might be a failure, but then again the 6990 has been out longer to fix any bugs that are out, the gtx 590 not so much, so that could be another reason.

Ignoring dual gpu cards, however, Nvidia's GTX 580 still is the fastest single gpu solution at the moment.

Yay, 5970 buddies! LOL

Anyway, +1 to whats been said, 590 hotter and more power hungry, 6990 louder, benchmarks ... up and down for both.

Just wait for the drivers to mature a bit and given time, we'll see what both cards are truly capable of.

BTW, AMD has challenged Nvidia (a lil while back) to see whose best between the two cards, lol.
