So what? GTX 580 can **** on a 6970, and GTX 570 SLI > HD 6990.

Well nVidia can't win every battle. Their Fermi cards have all design flaws too much watt and thermals. The GTX 460 was their best card in a long time.

That is one game comparison. If you actually look at card reviews on sites, most will say that peformance is mostly even, with some games better on AMD, and some better on nVidia.

However the real kicker is that the 590 is super quiet (albeit runs hotter), and the 6990 is a freaking banshee, unacceptably loud (fans default to higher speeds to keep it cool).

This is coming from a guy who owned a 480 and thought it was too loud with excellent airflow, I can't imagine how bad the 6990 is.

the games that run better on the gtx590 are obviously more optimized for the nvidia cards.. 6990 has 2x200mhz more core clock speed, thats a huge amount brother.

Wow, two cards are faster than one ? lol

Actually they're not

Image

Take a good look, 6990 is faster in Crysis Warhead.

And that's two 580s to beat one video card.

Thanks for coming out.

For the record I have 580 Tri-Sli. So save your fanboyism for another thread.

GTX 590 is a piece of crap

Hey boy, the 6990 is dual chip... so it's practicly cf.. so it's 2 cards..

Bollocks. In a wide variety of game testes the scores are back and forth with some being ties, some wins for AMD, and others wins for nVidia. Considering the GTX 580 costs nearly twice as much as the 6970, that's actually quite sad. The 580 jumps up to more than twice as much if you do what I did and BIOS mod your 6950 to a 6970 BIOS, thus opening up additional shaders and allowing for even greater overclocks (higher yet if you use the MSI Afterburner application).

I'm running a BIOS modded 6950 (all shaders opened up like a 6970) with a core speed of 1GHz and RAM speed of 1.45GHz just dandy (core voltage is 1.24 up from 1.17). Only paid $250 for it new. Damn sight better than paying upwards of $499-$599 for a GTX 580 that's not really going to give much better performance. And if I want to really get stuff going, I can just buy another 6950, BIOS mod it, and run in Crossfire mode to get equal to, or better than 6990 performance. All for less than the price of a single GTX 580.

It's pretty awesome what amd/ati pulls off with their die size vs nvidia.
