Guard Patrols to be in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:55 pm

I thought that imperial guard patrols were quite useful in oblivion, especially if you are low level characters, they take care of anything on the main path and they are 10 levels higher than you, i think it would be cool if we saw similar patrols in Skyrim they could travel in groups of 3 to 6 some on horseback, be cool if you could get side quests from them or even be one of them and tag along what do you guys think?

I actually doubt it. Skyrim is Rugged, and most of the holds function as autonomous city-states now, because of the civil war. So there's likely no centralized enforcement body to patrol the roads, and, given the Nord Mentality, you're more likely to survive in the wilderness, than in a town full of bloodthirsty norseman.

Maybe each city is patrolling the their border? It is a civil war after all, there should be 6-10 men patrols going around the main roads and whatnot they're at war.

Maybe, but they make it out to be more like political infighting and coups, rather than a full-scale war that would require borderwatch duty.

Just the general feel of Skyrim, it wouldn't surprise me if the Nords are a lot more Darwinian in their views. If you can't survive out there, you're no use to us here. That sort of thing.

Or maybe I don't give the Nords enough credit for being a totaly civilized and not bloodthirsty race of hyperangry viking warriors.

I liked that in Oblivion, though I honestly doubt there will be patrols in TES V. Cyrodiil is the heart of the Empire, needing save roads. Skyrim is having geographical and political problems; Also, the wilderness is supposed to be a lot more dangerous than the one in Cyrodiil, that's a cliche.
I agree Nords aren't quite civilised either: It might be difficult for the Empire to control these things in every province, especially in these hard times.

To cut a long story short: Probably won't be implemented. I'd like to see it on a few major roads though, so I voted yes.

that would make more sense having a border patrol and guard duty

I want Skyrim to be more dangerous for low levels. I liked the patrolling guards too, but that was the heart of the empire, it made sense to feel more secure near the imperial city. I would like instead other types of patrols: small armies guarding their strongholds, cavalry armies under various clans flags marching to war or just to intimidate others, groups of hunters carying fresh meat into towns, groups of bandits attacking caravans...

I think the latter, they're not orks.
