Guardians of the Galaxy

I'm starting this thread 'cause for the life of me I have absolutely NO idea what this movie is about! And believe me, I've watched thousands of movies and I thought I was immune to being stumped by a movie's plot. Does it have a plot? I see lots of strange people/aliens running around babbling and lots of action, but I'll be damned if I know what's going on! I even tried to watch the extras and the commentary and nope, I'm still no closer to understanding this movie. In the end I gave up and started to watch Captain America 2 instead. You know, I had a bad feeling about the movie as soon as I saw the cartoon talking raccoon and the equally daft tree, but I bit the bullet and came away realising that I was right after all! Thoughts, anyone? Anyone as perplexed by this movie as I am? Can anyone explain it?

If you mean the new movie, that came out 2 months ago, yes i saw it - and i liked it. :D

It's funny, full of action, and visually stunning.

It depends of course, if you like movies that kind.

I loved it. Pretty much a group of criminals who come together and stop a villain from destroying a planet with a very powerful object. Have you seen the other movies in the MCU? GoTG is important to it.

Would buy it digitally, but ordered tje Blu-ray version ($20 off!).

I've seen all the Thor, Iron Man, Captain America movies and The Avengers. The only character I recognised in the movie from the comics was Thanos, but I'm still none the wiser as to what's going on. Although, I do remember seeing that strange Collector (?) character in one of the Easter Eggs which was at the end of Thor 2?

To be honest I found the plot (or lack thereof) was a bit of a train wreck, with it consisting of lots of babble, ranting and action for action's sake. And things were moving so quickly that I couldn't get a gist of who the main characters were and what motivated them. Was there anything motivating them? The only substance I saw was in the main character and the death of his mother at the beginning. Other than that they were all one big question mark! Tell a lie, wasn't the talking raccoon supposed to be some sort of experiment?

It is a story of unlikely heroes. They saw that something bad was going to happen, and for their own various reasons, teamed up to stop it.

Chris Pratt (Starlord) was a reluctant hero - he did not really want to get involved, but his conscience would not let him walk away.

Green Zoe Saldana (Gamora) was a former villain looking for redemption.

Grey Dave Bautista (Drax) had a beef with Ronan (the blue bad guy), who killed his family.

Raccoon Bradley Cooper (Rocket) is a merc who got swept up in all of it and found his conscience would not let him go, either.

Wooden Vin Diesel (Groot) just follows Rocket around, really.

Yeah, Rocket was a genetic experiment that escaped and became a mercenary to survive.
