Guards

Post » Thu Mar 18, 2010 4:35 am

So one day, on my Argonian Warlock, I was walking round in my Kavatch guard uniform and it hit me. Why do ALL the guards have to be Imperial or Dunmer (pending on what game your playing) I understand the Imperial City cause well thats like the capital and such. But why can't you like in Leyawiin, have like an Argonian Guard or Khajiit or something. Or if you went up to Bruma have some Nord guards. I'm not talking about all of them but one or two there and stuff.

In Bruma Burd was a Nord, and in Leyawiin, the government is so racist that they torture Argonians. Most likely, it is because of general racism and local dominance that the guard populations generally consist of those native to the land.

I thought that it was only the countess that hated them?

In Cyrodiil, I can understand why one might not be inclined to have i.e. dunmer in the Imperial guard, but in the provinces there should be an reflection of the local natives in the guard.

I would assume it has to do with presence.
A imperial guard of the land is much more threatening and enforcing than...a cat? Just doesn't make for a good presence as a guard.

id someone saw something about guards :toughninja: ?

on a happier note, i think it is normal to have the natives of the land guard their own place it just makes more sense. the Dunmer hate the imperials so why would one allow them to become guards? In Leyawin the cats and lizzards hate each other so why have a kajiit thats going to discriminate against the lizzards?

Actually in MW they had different guards. In one of the cities (Gnisses? wherever you can join the imperial legion) all the guards there are imperials. Same with a few other cities, b/c there are imperial forts and stuff.

Imperial guards only are stationed in imperial towns and forts, or should i say imperial influenced towns and forts. they're is no guard presence in vivec, Sadrith Mora(only at wolverine hall) or many other native dunmer cities.

I don't think a Dunmer could quite pull off the imminent dread of: "STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!"

Best they tend to do is: "You Inwah!"

That's nothing compared to the sinisterly intrusive, "We're watching you.... scum!". Prevention is favourable to the cure.

Well, I've only played Oblivion extensively enough to know all of the guards... Yeah, I know, I need to get out more.

They had 2 Redguard guards in Anvil, for the Gang of Women quest; a Nord guard in Bruma (Burd); 2 female Imperial guards, in Leyawiin & Bravil; 1 High Elf, a Redguard, a Nord, a Breton, and an Orc in the Sewers when you do that DB quest, and Mazoga can become an official Knight of Leyawiin, making her a "guard" of sorts.

So that's 2 Redguard Men, and 1 Redguard Woman, 2 Imperial Women, 2 Nordic Men, 1 High Elven Man, a Breton Man, 1 Orc Woman, and 1 Orc Man.

However, only Imperials can arrest you. The others will just attack.

Those cats get to be twice as tall as an Altmer, four tons, and made out of muscle if they are born in the right 64th of a month.

I never really heard that very much, I heard a lot more "grr"'s from Ordiators. My disk was scratched or somewthing so that If I was ever in a cell with more or equal Ordinators to NPC's, An Ordinator would try and kill me. Needless to say, I didn't send much time in Vivec until I was level 9+

I'll say. In my early days of Morrowind those bad boys intimidated me so much that I played for months before I began to consider an Ordinator as a defeatable opponent.

And don't even think about pissing them off. Those bastard's hold a grudge.

"A thousand ordinators of the Almsivi empire descend upon you. Our accusations of SCUM will blot out the sun!
"Then we will be scum in the shade."

I actually remember there being a good number of Orc guards in Gnisis as well.

Gnisis only had orc guards! Well, maybe a few imperials inside the recruitment buildings. Guess Gnisis had a dangerous wilderness that they needed some big and burly orcs. However, they can't stop pant thieves.

maybe the developers thought of that, but had a good reason to not do it. maybe an argonian's combat skills would differ from an imperials, making them more vulnerable.

Well for the guards it is easier for them to make 2 guards and duplicate them and put them every were most guards are the same and i think they need to fix that.
The mix in race however would make it a lot more divers on how you are treated by the guards
For Example: Argonian guards would be nicer to Argonian citizens

Cause it's an Imperial province and therefore defended by the legion? Is the legion strictly Imperial only?

If so, I guess the cushy job of town guard is something you get after long service, so it's only natural that the majority are Imperial. I supposed Burd and such could be seen as Imperial mercenaries and such who also decided to settle down

Does the Imperial legion have a foreign legion?
