[RELZ]Guars 1.0

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 1:17 am

Well, in fact the riding player IS stuck in the air mid jumping; maybe a different jump animation engineered to look good both when riding and normally jumping would be feasible, but I don't think this is an easy task.

Ah, I figured as much. Well, the default jump animation is not the nicest I've seen so perhaps someone will do it eventually anyway. Hopefully it won't make it look worse with the guars though!

I have been having the whole "Shield animation not found" error right before the guar goes into combat. I've noticed that sometimes the guar will sound like she's casting on herself before a fight. Lately, I've been getting the above error constantly.
I went ahead and checked "showmagicka" and it was at 0. I also went and typed "show ab01guNoMagicka" which was already set to 1 like it's supposed to be.
I am at a loss for what is happening. Before this newer version, I didn't see that error, though I saw the guar cast on itself (presumably) before going into combat.

Getting that error is pretty game stopping since it's the type of error that completely stops the game like a missing mesh. Is there some herb that causes this to happen when it is in her inventory? Do you have any idea what is going on, abot?

Edit: 10_16

I just saw with my own eyes that my guar decided to use my quality Levitate potions to be able to get to a Betty Netch up in the sky...I know because I just placed them in there not two minutes ago. Then I saw my Guar levitate and, since I had never seen her do that before except while following me, I immediately looked in her inventory and the two potions were gone. Geez, wouldn't one quality potion be enough for her?........;) I'm going to try telling my guar to only eat ingredients when she's hurt.

Another thing I've noticed about the newer versions of this mod is that a lot of times when you tell the guar to move aside, she sort of resets and stops following you. When I say reset, I mean the screen sort of flickers for a second...it's hard to describe it, though I've seen this same reset happen with companions too. When you tell them to mount, there is a strange flicker that seems like a kind of reset and it's been impossible to ride one guar with a companion whereas before, I had no trouble besides not being able to select the guar...The flicker is very hard to describe but it's almost like the training dialogue where you choose training, then the screen fades momentarily to simulate time passing. That's the best way I know how to explain it.

I do have to say, though, that mounting is SO awesome now. I haven't ever had any of the strange mounting issues that the earlier versions had. It's really fantastic.

Hi Abot. Thanks for a great mod! I recently noticed the latest update to 1.15, so thanks for that too.

For some reason I can't seem to figure out how to make my guar intelligent. I've added the ash yam and bloat to his inventory with no result. I'm using cdcooley's improved teleportation 2.0. Any suggestions? I'm likely missing something obvious; but if its a result of a mod conflict that I'm not aware of perhaps there is a console command that will get me there?

While I'm here, a bit of a wish list for your consideration, should you plan on doing more work on the mod :hehe: :

-An option to tell/train the guar to stay out of combat.

-A quick key combo, similar to your others, that gives instant access to inventory.

-When a companion is mounted on the guar alone, it seems impossible to order the companion to dismount without first having to mount yourself, then go into free view mode, then order the companion to dismount. This is because while standing on the ground, I find it impossible to enter into dialogue with the mounted companion for a "dismount" order. It would be awesome if, while the PC is dismounted, the companion that is mounted could be ordered to dismount somehow without having to go through the previously mentioned steps. This would be extremely useful for situations where you are riding around with your companion, you run into something or someone with which you need to interact and so dismount to check it out, then find you need your companion to dismount as well. Perhaps there could be a dialogue option with the guar that forces your companion to dismount? Hope that made sense.

Spoiler
Did you try the "take herbs" topic?

if this does not work, you could try these console commands
click the guar, so to have selected guar ID on console window title
enter:
set ab01compTeleport to 2
then enter:
StartScript ab01gutCreSmarterScript

Thanks for the good ideas, I will think about it, but it seems difficult to do.

You should be able to ask the guar to "carry me only" to force NPC companions to dismount

Mountable and intelligent your video claims?

Now that's a rare find. Better marry that one!

I think this http://mwmodders.com/xacc.html has a quick key set up for instant access to inventory, if you are interested. Not sure if his method would work with your mod, but in any case, its just extra icing on the cake so not sure if its worth the work.

As far as keeping the guar from charging into fights, I used another guar companion mod for a while, I think it was Grumpy's Lulu where the guar just ran off a few yards from any fight until it was over. Mainly its the large size of the guar in the middle of groups of baddies that can be maddening sometimes. :swear: The work around to this would be to tell the guar to stay before fighting, but this leads to management that can turn cumbersome. Edit: Just dawned on me that this would make it rather difficult to fight while riding, which is one of the mods best features. I'm imagining an out of control guar headed for the hills at the first sign of danger with its owner screaming curses from its back. Its a pity its not as easy as my non-modder mind would hope for to have the fight mode switchable.

I have seven or eight other topics, but not that one, but I did try the console commands and they seemed to have worked great.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can now teleport around with my full entourage in tow.

Talk to one of the guar herders and buy the saddle from their inventory. If memory serves me correctly, they should be about 5k a piece.

So right... that is why we play games. Try talking to the guar, it should realize you have the burden and have a new topic enabled.

Sure, just don't espect me to give technical support to the mod users of the translated version. I can help if you need any explanation while translating, there are a lot of scripts involved.
[EDIT]
Regarding the problem of camera view glitches when riding the guar in 3Dperson view, I just tested changing 3Dcamera coordinates at game time with macros using http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1092628-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/page__view__findpost__p__15962791, it seems putting the camera higher can help a lot to reduce the glitches.
I hope if/when MGE will have a macro to toggle camera auto movevemt when player is near creatures/NPC (thanks Hrnchamd!) this can be solved completely, anyway the present camera macros already can help a lot.

Are you mod affected by the 72 hous "bug"?
Will be my guar able to forget me after that time? :-(

The guar level should not be affected, and would be set dynamically according to player level when player sleeps anyway. I don't remember if you have to tell the guar to follow again, anyway It is easy to test, just rest for 3 days.

This mod is even more awesome after using the new feature from MCP 1.8 which seems to effectively eliminate any clipping issues while riding with a companion. :mohawk:

On a related note, the newish MCP option of toggling sneak mode without holding down the ctrl key affects the slowdown/dismount feature of this mod. Essentially, after enabling said MCP feature, you will have to be very quick with your pinkie-finger to keep from from skipping 'slow down mode' straight to 'dismount mode'. (If you hit the sneak key to slow down while galloping you will actually skip very quickly to dismount unless you are very quick with toggling the sneak key on and off.) Perhaps it would be worth updating to a different hotkey for slowdown/dismount?

(Edited to be a little more clear. )

Yes, MCP camera fix can solve the problem 100% apparently. The only real drawback seems to be you often see the loading door mesh immediately after changing cell until you make the first step.

It is not easy because the only keys I can detect in the riding script are sneak (CTRL) /activate (SPACE) keys, and they are used to do a lot of different things already. I will see if the delay between CTRL detections can be increased a little.

Update time! I think I have found a good compromise for better compatibility with MCP toggle sneak option.
See updates on first post.
Enjoy!

Can the smart guar level up? How? If level up, is the speed increased?

IIRC the big one (ab01guGuarPackMountScript) and I think I have added the ab01guGuarTamerScript, but the last one has nothing to translate
Can the smart guar level up?
Yes
How? When you/If level up, is the speed increased?
yes, and yes. When player is near the guar, if player level is greater than the guar level, tha stats are updated (about 2 points per level). For the details, see the part of ab01guGuarPackMountScript right below the MessageBox "Companion guar gained experience!" line.
