I guess you will be able to mute the voice?

Or dont choose a voice?
Im one of those that hate voiced protagonists in a Beth game. So I hope I will be able to play without voiced protagonist.

As a default game option, I wouldn't bet on it.

Voiced PCs have been standard for RPGs for over a decade, so all this means is that BGS is finally adopting an approach that all other developers have used for over 10 years.

I seriously doubt that anyone wants to watch characters talking to each other with lips flapping and no sound coming out. It would be very odd, to say the least.

A little too late to complain now, and a little late to the party. It's-a comin'.

You'll certainly be able to mute all voices.

Given the uproar, I think a separate slider for your voice would be reasonable, and very little effort for them to do.

We'll see.

Yup, it's under Settings and Audio in the volume settings. I think past games has a toggle for NPC voices, or it's all sounds.

Well, not that Im not gonna buy the game because of it..but I think it doesnt fit to have a voiced protagonist the way Fallout or TES games work. I really dont want anybody thinking for me how my character is gonna be,including voice of course.

A kill-cam toggle would've taken no effort in Skyrim but we never got one.

Of course, since dialogue options are simplified and don't reflect exactly what your character will say, you would have to play with subtitles on if you muted the PC voice. I doubt it will be a separate mute option from other voices, though. However, somebody is almost certain to create a mod that mutes the player voice.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see 'voice replacer' mods where the modder uses sound software to change the pitch, tone and maybe even play speed of the default voice files to provide variety (like making the PC dialogue deeper and slower), but I don't know a lot about that sort of stuff.

With mods everything will be possible. But you have to wait until they arrive. I like to play with subtitles.

Simply. Just mute the TV when the protagonist starts talking. Problem solved. :tops: :spotted owl:

Mrs obvious, no need too. I really didnt like the idea in my mind, and watching the Fallout 4 gameplays I just realized I was right.

Theres no way they'll give you the option to just turn off a feature they've no doubt spent a lot of time, money, and effort on.

I don't play on a TV. So that isn't an option for me.

Yeah, doesn't seem any more "mad and dictatorial" than any of the other basic features the devs decide about their games - like the storyline, the color palette, the locations....

(...all of which have been complained about before, of course. "How dare they force me to be the Dragonborn/Neraverine/Lone Wanderer, I want to play Random Subsistence Farmer Joe" "Why is everything so bright, this is a post-apocalypse!" "Why another human province, I want to see Khajit/Argonians/etc" :whistling: )

I think they will have subtitles as it is pretty standard in games today and Beth doesn't want to be seen as insensitive to the deaf.

Oh, I'm sure they'll have subtitles. I just doubt they'll have a specific volume control for just the protag voice (could be a silder for all voices.... I don't remember if they had that in FO3/Skyrim. /hmm)

Ok now if I could change the PC's voice pitch so he sounds like Mickey Mouse ... I'd be ok with that.

Ive never met a game that doesnt have subtitles, and I am sure due to the way the dialoge is handled (the protag and the NPCs have seperate tracks), it will have a slider. (or will be easy to implement through a mod)

That being said, its not mad and dictatorial, no ones forcing you to buy the game if you don't like the new direction. The game is made in the eyes of bethesda. Not specifically for you.

Worst case, go into the data files, find the PC sound files and delete.
