Guild for archaeologists/Explorers

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:04 am

How would you feel about the idea of having this sort of guild in Skyrim. Like a guild devoted to uncovering knowledge of the past, of magic, of the gods, whatever. It could lead to some intriguing mysteries, fun puzzles and Indiana Jones/Lara Croft style adventures. I imagine the Lore fans would love it.

Would their main purpose be to discover new items/locations?

Yes please. If BGS did a version of Lost Spires I would approve greatly :)

No, I suppose it is kind of like what I am suggesting?

Sort of. Like perhaps they would have an expedition to find an ancient artifact, or investigate a ruin that they believe may have evidence of the Falmer.

Hmm I'd give it a try :) It seems a little more "laidback" than the other guilds.

No, it's deadly serious. Uncover ancient myths, solves the greatest mysteries of history, and awaken ancient evils in the process. Why would it be more laidback?

Serious yes, but pacing-wise it sounds like it would be slower. Not saying that is a bad thing. Diversity is always welcome.

Do you mean the Mages' Guild, or perhaps now the College of Whispers and/or the Synod?

The mages guild never seemed to have much of that, it was all about the instructiona and responsible use of magic throughout the empire. This wouldn't be a mage only thing either, more like a fancified scholars guild, where instead of doing research only, you go out and explore and discover things. Think Indiana Jones, but more cerebral as well.

I think it would be cool and funny to have this type of archeology guild start off as a kind of lame, unsuccessful guild with nothing, just uncovering common gems and chasing theories, but then you come along and turn the guild into something great. Paired with the dynamic story it could be interesting. Some quests might send you to a daedric shrine or a falmer ruin with the intent on bringing back an artifact. Have "boss" missions where caves are heavily booby trapped and you need to think your way out like an Indiana Jones of the frozen north. It would also be cool that since youre the dragonborn and youre searching caves for the runes allowing you to use the Voice, people in the guild could help point you in the right direction or boost your voice abilities.

Anyone else interested in this type of guild? I think it would be a great way to introduce the Falmer as anactual culture that existed, rather than just a legend.

I think it would be great. I've built "archaeologist" characters for Oblivion--ones with goals to explore all the Ayleid Ruins or all the forts and that was a blast.

Why do we need a guild for that? I'd rather have an Indiana Jones approach to my adventures, than be the servant of a guild. I dont really need a guild to find cool locations with hidden items and explore the story behind a dungeon.

Not really. Except for the fact that it's EXACTLY what you're suggesting :teehee:

Great mod, though. No voice acting, but definitely captures the archeology and exploration aspect that Oblivion never had.

Yes, yes, yes!!! The Mages guild quest where you had to fire different spells on a column to open a way down into an unexplored dungeon was one of my most favorite quests in OB. And finding some secret passages in Ayleid ruins was really cool too

I think it could be nice, if done right.

I'm waiting to say much more than that though... until we get more info on guilds. Right now we have none :(

Totally forgot but the Ayleid Statue questline was very Indiana Jones-esque.

This. Can't really say without more info. It doesn't really need to be a guild either. A quest-line or two you can get from some competing collectors would be good enough for me. Personally I would like to see a rolling bolder of doom in a small tunnel or something though. :P Or an invisible bridge where you need to have faith that its there.

I would like this kind of a guild. have a main quest line trying to uncover and a bunch of minor random item retreaval quests to do.
I would like to see you having to do 4-5 minor random quests between each part of the main quest as a way of earning the trust of the guild
