Guild Names

Post » Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:00 am

So we haven't been told as of yet that we will see any of the guilds from Previous Games apart from the Dark brotherhood but I'm assuming we'll see the regular ones The Theives Guild ect.
I personally despise the lack of creativity thats gone into the names. So I though I'd start a thread where people can talk about guild names do you like the current ones if not suggestions as to what you think they should be called.
I'll start with the Mages Guild - I can think of a couple of names off the top of my head that IMO sound better. The Academy of Arcane Research. The Association of Mages.

They have replaced the Mages' Guild with the Synode and the College of Whispers, so that's a good start. How about the Fighter's Guild return to the name The Syffim?

I believe whisperers are more into dark arts... Its 200 hundred years anything could have happened.
Maybe Theives Guild could have become a little less Robin Hood and cheesy and maybe a bit more Gang Like.

I really hope the order of virtuous blood makes a return (or something similar), i doubt it will considering it was based in The imperial city, but you never know. :hubbahubba:

Actually that would be cool. Since you said "its been 200 years anything could have happened," I think it would add to the game where the Thieves guild morphed over those 200 years and the original meaning was lost 100 years ago or something like that. It would add to the story.

Disregard anything related to the TG from OB. They have always been a gang with the intent to regulate the amount of illegal activity so crime can still be around, performed efficiently without people being harmed, and so guards and rulers do not go ballistic on criminal activity. The real Thieves Guild is the ones from Daggerfall, and a bit in Morrowind. Freelancers need to have their arms broken for refusing to join, competition killed or ratted on, drug smuggling, general burglary, and blackmailing.

Also, everyone knew there was the Thieves Guild, it was just members were often good enough so that even if they were known members, they couldn't be hauled off due to a lack of evidence. In Oblivion, the fact that people didn't know they exist was either due to people really buying into the guard's propaganda, or they were really that stupid/ignorant.

Heck, that one quest "The Siren's Song" could have had a separate approach with the Thieves Guild also wishing to remove them, because those ladies were freelancers and were causing too much of a ruckus in Anvil, that it would have been a bad place to operate in.

We're definitely going to see the Synod and the College of Whispers, as those are the two mage organizations. Well, we might only see one of those. We're likely to see a "Thieves' Guild" style organization, since they weren't chartered by the Empire. The Fighter's Guild is most definitely out, and I have no idea what will replace it.

i think there should be like a ranger's guild, a guild of people who specialise in contracts that require going to dangerous places (mountains, forests, cliffsides) and getting some sort of item for the contracter, i can't think of a force they would oppose though so if anyone has any suggestions please reply

To be honest, that sounds like work the Fighters Guild would do. The FG is an organization for mercenaries to get some reliable work and perform legal, though sometimes shady, tasks that guards cannot be bothered to do. That's why they were created by the Potentate in the first place, especially since the population had problems that they needed help with, but the guards were too few in number to help.

We know of the Bard's College, but whether this a school for Bards or a front for the Dark Brotherhood? We don't know.

Well, honesty is the best policy.
Anyways DB and TG could stay the same, so we just have to worry about fighters.

The Mages and Fighters Guilds were names as such because they were imperially chartered. The Thieves Guild probably took that name because it's an accurate descriptor and to work like the other guilds.

I mean, it's not like real guilds didn't have names like this. They were just about lamer things. There could be the Blacksmith Guild, Shipworker Guild, Tailor Guild, etc. Nowadays, just replace the word Guild with Union, and the name-theme stays the same.

well theres probably gonna be the Synod and the College of Whispers. fighter's guild, dark brotherhood, and thieves guild will probably all return in some fashion
i'd like to see a new mercenary group that you can join instead of the fighter's guild, similar to the Blackwood Company . i'd also like to see a joinable guard faction that worked against the DB and/or TG plots.
arena would be be cool to have back. but i'd like it better if it were more gritty, and underground. kind of like a Skyrim fight club. or a place to prove your strength and place in the world
EDIT: also, don't think the Morag tong will be in it. they were already located in morrowind only, and it's more than likely they were broken up when the argonians pushed the dunmer out of morrowind

The Slit Throat's : A gang of criminals far more brutal than thieves guild. Robbing, killing, kidnapping and Skooma trafficking is among their main focus.

I'd like the Fighters Guild to stay, but with a name change, and more like DF and MW's Fighters Guild, instead of Oblivion's Fighters Guild. Reason being, the Cyrodiilic branch ended up as a group of pissy mercs who ended up killing off competition because the Fighters Guild was too weak kneed and incompetent, which allowed the Blackwood Company to come in and pick up the slack, while the FG as a whole was filled with cry babies and a leader who was clearly not a leader.

With the Daggerfall and Morrowind branch, they were mercenaries hired to take care of work the guards could not be bothered with, and they performed their tasks well. Sure, half of the FG in Morrowind was corrupt, but at least they got things done, instead of standing around and crying "DEY TUK AR JUBZ!"

Please, if your going to keep the fighters guild, make it interesting this time. I abhor that quest line with a passion. I would drag myself to do it to gain fame points, but thats it. Never for fun.

You could replace it with two separate guilds. One guild of mercinaries who will do any job there is out there, pretty much like the guild rivaling the Fighters guild in Oblivion (I cant remember the name) but allow you to join them. Then have a separate guild, which I really cant think of anything interesting to do with them.

So...have the MW and DF Fighters Guild back? Because I see no reason of having a "Grr, we're evil because we'll even kick a puppy for 5g" and a "We're good guys, we'd never kick a puppies" fighters guilds. That was pretty much the difference between the Blackwood Company and Fighters Guild.

Seriously, just because you can only do legal quests, doesn't mean they can't be shady. For example, in Morrowind, you were contracted to act as a debt collector plenty of times, and it was your task to find these people and shake them down. You could cover the debt for them, punch them in the face for the money, or persuade the person to pay up. There were also plenty of quests where you were told to clear out the dungeon, or to go to X place and remove the giants that had set up a home and are eating the farmers and livestock.

Yeah...reading your post would have been helpful. I'm just not very inspired with Skyrim talk lately.
