I am looking at the skills in the Wiki. Why are some skills hi-lighted yellow? Are they special skills? I can't find it anywhere what they mean.

With a yellow/gold outline? Those are elites, you can only have one in a build, they are just more powerful and unique than regular skills.

Just play the game, its fairly simple once you get going. Beginning is a bit boring though, as with all MMORPG's

I am puzzled at what to be. I like the look of the Necromancer, but I like the Elementalist for the more magic, just like why I choose to be an Altmer in TES games, to have the most magika pool.

Other than the magika pool does it really make that much of a difference? I could be like an Elemantalist and then become a Necromancer? I just like the look of the Necromancer so much better.
So what do you think is the better way to go?

I say go with what you like the look of better. The casters all have some form of energy management to counter casting spells. With Elementalists it's just having the most energy to start with, but with Necromancers it's about recovering energy by killing enemies (the faster you kill the more you recover).

By the way, my ingame name is Mai Solkim. What's yours so I can add you to friendlist?

If you're going for a minion master build, you can basically use any of the magic oriented classes as a second. That includes elementalist. Necro/mesmer is more commonly used and good for nuking though, with Arcane Echo.

I use Hsoj Vvad. That is the character I named. I live in Canada, so I don't know if those would be a different region than you. Where do you usally play? I will try going there then if it's easier to do so.

Necromancer it is then.

*edit* Sorry I missed your post Redviv, I will keep that in mind about the mesmer. I will read up on her, (I don't know why I think that sounds female :))

My first character was and is an elementalist/necromancer. I'm also running two mesmers, a male and female, partly because they get some of the best clothing in the game. :) (19th or 18th century.)
One thing you'll find about the heroes is that you can also give them a secondary profession, something I only discovered in the past month or so. Mesmers are a challenge for me to play because potentially they're among the strongest characters, in being able to shut down the opponent, but at the same time they're physically relatively vulnerable. I'm still working through all four games in Guild Wars and have come to prefer any game but the first one (Prophecies), since ArenaNet learned over the years and IMO improved the series with each game. I'm currently running eight characters. You don't start in Eye of the North, you can travel there when you hit level 10 or so (but I recommend waiting until at least level 15).
You may want to start a dervish character in Nightfall and a ritualist in Factions, as they're interesting to play. My most recent character is a paragon (from Nightfall) which is also interesting, a spear-thrower who can capture the ability to become an avatar of one of the gods temporarily. (Sometime read the Guild Wars wiki about how to capture elite skills by buying a signet and killing the NPCs who have the elite skills.) I hope you'll have fun with the game.

When I decide to play Nightfall or Factions do I have to start a new character or can I continue using the character I have now?

Also I don't know how, but I had some Mesmer powers as a second skill, then I talked to someone else and he gave me some Monk powers and the Mesmer Powers disappeared. I don't care for these monk powers, is there a way to get the Mesmer ones back? I tried talking to the girl who gave them to me in the first place, but all I have is the option to become a Mesmer for good which I don't want.

Also how do I get more Necromancer skills? Going back to the manual now. :(. Want to play not read lol.

You can gain access to all of the expansion areas with any character once you reach a certain point in their "home country" campaign story. My character is from Prophecies, but I've taken her to Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North as well. I guess you can technically get yourself to any of them from the beginning, but it requires that you use runners to take your character to one of the hub cities like Lion's Arch or Kaineng Center, and that's expensive (like 5000 platinum I'd wager).

When you're starting out they let you test a small handful of skills from each class for the secondary profession. It's not permanent until you actually accept and become a N/Me, or N/Mo, et cetera. I don't think you can get the temporary sample skills back without making the change permanent, but I wouldn't sweat it. That's still the very beginning of the game.

Getting more skills is half the fun of the game. You can earn them through quest rewards, through purchase from trainers, and through Skill Capture which lets you gain a skill from any enemy boss you kill (bosses are the ones that glow, you probably haven't encountered one yet). There are hundreds and hundreds of skills. For example, the http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_necromancer_skills Add to that all of the skills of your secondary profession, and you've got a huge library to choose from once you actually collect said skills through the game.

"Across the Wall" I am was going to do this quest, someone helped me open the door, but said I should wait doing this quest. I don't really want to know, but something about they joining me later or not. So should I go and rescue Ben Wolfsen or should I save this for later? I can't rememeber what the person exactly said, so I am curious as to what to do. The GW Wiki doesn't really explain it at all.

Got a few more quesitons. I have 3 Frost artifacts and when I try to equipe it, I get a red circle with a slash on it like "Do Not" on it. So does this mean I can't use it?

I also have a Grim Cesta. What is it? I try to equipe it but again, I get the red circle with the slash on it. Should I just sell it to give room for my inventory? Should I keep it to use later? I am a necromancer, can I even use it?

Also how can I tell what my armour rating is? I can't read it or see where it can be. How do I know if the armour is doing anything?

If you hover the mouse over your armor, it should tell you. From what I can tell you're in Ascalon pre-searing? I can't really remember why it won't let you equip the artifacts.

Press L to use your questlog, and follow the green star to the next objective. Doing quests can only help.

Artifacts/Grim Cestas and all of those things are offhand items. You cant equip them with a staff, you need a scepter or something else one handed. They have a red Do Not sign when you try and equip them with 2-handed items.

Armor rating is said on the piece of armor. Each piece of armor only covers that part of the body, and when you get hit you get hit in either the head, chest, arms, legs or feet.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armor_rating This willl explain it all better than I can.

Are you using a wand or a staff? If you have a staff equipped you cannot use an off-hand item (like artifacts). If I recall correctly, a Grim Cesta is a wand and therefore you should try to place it in your main hand slot.

So many of my characters and heroes have ended up being secondary necros that I sometimes think they should have named the game "Necro Wars". :)

Of course, there are still many enemies that are "fleshless" and thus resistant to, or immune to, necromancy.

I have Grawl Shaman and Longspear Gear. Shold I just sell it now? I don't know what I can use it for. I tried salvage and got some tanned hides, so should I keep them so I can make something out of it, or just sell it so I have empty slots?

Since I am a Necromancer, I am wondering if I can use the Necromacner Rune of Minor Death Magic? How do I equipe it or use it? It says to double click it, but what should I apply it to? Should I wait till I get better armou? All I have right now is Initiates stuff.

I don't know how easy it is to get the Runes, or where I even go it. Trying to read the wiki but so much to learn. :)

Runes are used to "enchant" your gear. Once you go "post searing" you can purchase runes in major towns as well as randomly receive them when you salvage rare items.

The Grawl stuff are salvage items, just use a salvage kit on them to get raw materials which you can sell/use/store.

When you first start the game you are in "Pre-Searing" Ascalon. As you progress with the story an event will occur that takes your character into the future 1 year into "Post-Searing" Ascalon. Players on your side of this event cannot interact with players on the other side of the event until you reach that part of the story.

You should be able to purchase bank space from the bankers in town. They are always standing next to a big chest and I think their name has "Representative" in it. Most items you pick up are useful for selling and nothing else. If you move your mouse over them they will indicate that they are either "Trade Items" (trade these to collectors for armor and weapons), "Crafting Materials" (use these to make armor and weapons), and "Salvage" (use a salvage kit to break these into Crafting Materials). There may be other categories, but I don't remember them.

In Pre-Searing, I recommend selling salvage items and unused armor and weapons as they aren't going to be worth using a salvage kit on. Get an identification kit though as some "Unidentified" items are "Precious" and can be sold for a lot more if you have identified them. Also, some items can be identified as "Highly Salvageable", these items are worth using a salvage kit on since they give a lot of extra crafting materials.

Save any Dyes you find as they are usually worth a lot of money.

Heh, yeah.
I remember on first first character, I had a vial of black dye drop in pre-searing. I immediately put it on my warhammer. I got a bloody nose from facepalming when I found out it was worth around 12 platinum.

You can either sell them for a quick buck or use them to make your armor look cool.

Dyes are a luxury item that many players are willing to pay large sums of money for.
They can be used on your weapons and armor to change the appearance, however it is recommended that you do not apply them to your gear until you get the max gear since you cannot recover a dye once it is applied. Also, unless you really want your gear to be black, I strongly recommend that you sell any black dye as it has always been worth a lot of money.
