The East Empire trading company
joinable Daedric cults
joinable alternatives to the Mages guild and fighters guild (Necromancers Guild and Mercenaries Guild)
Nordic religious cults

EDIT: if there is the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood there has to be a storyline where they war with each other

I doubt the Morrowind Houses will appear, but I imagine that there will be Skyrim city-state factions and probably something like the Hammerfell Crowns vs Forebears.

There might be some representatives of the houses or refugees though

If there are Skyrim houses, I hope there will be Nordic houses, there is so much potential

I hope for something similar to Great Houses of Morrowind, like some big clans that rival each other and need help to manage plots against other clans, or gain information from them and so on...

You can offer to help one of them, or be a two sided sonof...

Let's start with the guilds that will obviously appear:

Fighter's Guild
Thieve's Guild
Mages Guild

Actually, we can't say that at all. In fact, I could claim more of the opposite with more evidence. Its 200 years after Oblivion, the Empire has fallen, and Skyrim is at war. I highly doubt the Mage's Guild and Fighter's Guild will exist at all. More likely, we are going to see the Synod or that other one I can't remember the name of for Mages. Fighter's...well, I'm not sure what the name of the faction will be, but I highly doubt we will see any "guilds" (as they are state sanctioned).
Other guilds or factions (many from past games) that may appear:

Skyrim Houses/Clans/Factions
Imperial Legion
Morag Tong
Dark Brotherhood
Arena
Imperial Cult
Imperial Trading Company
Houses from Morrowind (Hlaalu, Telvanni, Redoran)

I definitely don't think we'll see either the Legion (if we do, it will be in very small numbers) or the Imperial Trading Company. As far as I know, the Empire is pretty much rather far out of the picture.

I'm all for brand new and original factions related to Skyrim's culture. As for old staples, I think the only one that will be in for sure is the Skyrim version of the thieves guild.

The Empire presence will probaly be limited to an embassy in the Skyrim capitol

some guild ideas
-Mercenaries Guild (or club or something), Their headquarters should be a pub or something, and you don't et quests from the guild members, you are approached directly by customers, or they could do it like th eTheives guild in Oblivion, where you freelance for a while, and get special jobs
-Instead of the Thieves guild being like it was in Oblivion, it should function like the Mockers in the Riftwar books,
-Daedric cults, you offer your service to a Daedric prince of your choice, and get quests from the head honcho, eventually becoming the Daedric Princes, 'mouth' in Skyrim

Dark Brotherhood should be in but since the bad luck with the morag tong (not saying they are essentially destroyed) maybe the Dark Brootherhood will get a new rival

three secret factions that by normally playing the game YOU'LL NEVER RUN INTO THEM EVER......EVER only by doing some insane exploring

Werewolves
vampires
and guys trying to kill both of them made up of members from other factions

I'm saying ULTRA SUPER SECRET...maybe even more so than vampires in morrowind.

Maybe it's cause I'm a Fallout fan but I'd rather have guilds with more story to them other than "We're mages, we're crazy about magic and crap!" and that factions aren't completely black and white good or evil.
And some more interesting names for them.
Of course, maybe previous lore prevents ES from that. I wouldn't know, still only played Oblivion. (Going to play Morrowind after I'm done with Planescape Torment)

the east empire company (no trading) actually went bankrupt. some of the former members are in oblivion in the imperial city waterfront district
anyway. i was kind of hoping, seeing as Solitude and Winterhold are rivals, that you could join either one and do quests for the cities.
im sure there will be some new factions though, seeing as its 200 years after oblivion. but i dont see them getting rid of the fighters, mages, or thieves guilds. they're too much part of the franchise to not include

Traders guild would be nice. Make a reputation while making money and gain ranks and respect according to your wealth.
I'd highly appreciate clan wars where once you choose sides there will be important consequences and you'll need a new play to see how it was on the other side. I don't like seeing all the content in one single play through with one single character.

Mages Guild

Mages Guild was destroyed before The Infernal City. The two new magic guilds would be the College of Whispers and the Synode.

I hope they will include both and not just revive the Mages Guild.

I think that because Skyrim is in the midst of a civil war, there will be some form of nordic tribes/brotherhoods/clans/houses, that you can join and complete quests for. Perhaps in an attempt to bring one group into power over the others by the end of the game or perhaps bringing peace to them all and uniting them against the dragons. Kind of like a sub-plot to the main quest line.

Yes, this would be great.

Since the story is set against the backdrop of a civil war I would be quite surprised if the hero is not required to choose sides and take actions that will affect the outcome of the war.

Also, if there is a cooking guild I want to see some insane iron chef competitions :flamethrower: :turtle:

I hope you all realize a guild is nothing more than a monopoly on a service. Fighters Guild, a monopoly on mercenaries. Mages Guild, a monopoly on magical teaching, study, and practice. Thieves Guild, a monopoly on illegal activity (not sanctioned, but they will go after you and break your arms at the very least if you refuse to join).

As has been said, there will definitely be no Mage's Guild and almost certainly no Fighter's Guild.

I highly doubt the Morag Tong will appear either, unless it's in a radically altered form. It's been what, 150 years since Morrowind, and dunmer society, was destroyed?

I think it'll be interesting to see how dunmer culture has changed and integrated; I've heard they would have re-settled mostly in Skyrim. But I doubt we'll see such a niche organization as the Morag Tong, highly dependent as it was upon the current culture and society.

Hopefully there'll be some political factions, in the vein of Daggerfall. That'd be great.

There must be a guild for fighters, and a guild for mages - not necessarily the Mages Guild and the Fighters Guild as we know them, but I'm certain there will be organisations you can join that will reflect one of these two types of play.

Cooking guild? Oh God no. I can't see how you could make a whole series of quests interesting, while still relevant to cooking...

I will be suprised if it isn't at least a dousin mecenary companies(not all are joinable of course) due to the warrior culture of the Nords. And with the civil war going on most guild are likely to have allies in one of the sides in the war. This will hopefully add some layers of complexity OB lacked.

So what are the potential guilds in Skyrim?

First, based on the general game design principles of The Elder Scrolls series, we know these three will definitely appear:

- Fighters' Guild
- Mages' Guild
- Thieves' Guild

The Guilds aren't just there for lore reasons, they fulfill a vital game function of providing factions based on specific skill sets.

We also know from the preview that these two factions will be in:

- Skyrim Nationalists
- Imperial Loyalists

And that the two will be fighting each other. We don't know yet which, if either, are joinable.

Based on the lore, the following political factions are probably still present in Skyrim, and won't necessarily be aligned with either of the above groups:

- The H?rme, an underground movement to restore the bloodline of Uriel III to the Imperial Throne
- Jsashe's Coven, an order of witches/priestesses of Lorkhan who rule Whiterun
- Morrowind refugees

We might also see the Solitude/Winterhold rivalry, although its more likely that those cities have taken opposite sides in the war.

We'll probably also see an assassin faction, either the Dark Brotherhood or the Morag Tong (ideally, we'd get both, and they'd work against each other).

And we might see some religious factions. Jsashe's Coven, the Nordic priesthood, the Imperial Cult, and the Tribunal-Temple-So-Deep-In-Denial-They've-Had-To-Break-Out-The-Shovels are all possibilities.
