Love this list of everything that's happened since they first announced DNF.

How did they stay in business?

Profits from Duke Nukem 3D, although that eventually ran out and 3D Realms had to lay off the entire team, at which point Gearbox came in to save the project.

Does the game appear to be promising?

That depends, now we are flooded with fps games. This only stands out because of its humor and it has gimmicks e.g drawing on the whiteboard.
Although I hear the campaign is like 12 hours.
Dont know if its true, but we have plenty of fps games, so not that great imo.

I think that at this point, they need to delay it again. And again. It should just remain in a perpetual state of "almost done, but not quite". The legend of DNF will live on as the greatest game to never be released (sorry Aliens RPG).

At this point I think many of the people who will get this game only know Duke Nukem from the talk about Duke Nukem Forever itself, because of its legendary delays, while having never played the original. :P

Dayum, I'm getting THAT one. :D

So excited for this game, it's been in development over half my life.

By the way, watch the launch trailer, it's awesome. The game seems like a huge throwback to the days of the original duke, kinda like a "What if a 90's videogame character got teleported to 2011?" type thing.

"They" didn't.

edit: By the way, since I'm here again, I've always found Serious Sam series to be way more fun than Duke Nukem and it's basically the same sort of FPS as Duke Nukem - i.e. mindless fun. As far as such FPSes go I can't see Duke Nukem bring anything better than what past and future Serious Sam games have brought/will bring.

Well... Sorta anyway. :P

It'll be interesting to see how many games they poke fun at, they do have twelve years worth of games they can joke about. Here's hoping for a bunch of Call of Duty jokes. :D

But it ain't 1999 any more. MOH and Halo have been born and killed in the time it took to get this out. Is anyone really going to care, or are they just going to keep playing COD online? I mean, The Simpsons once seemed funny and topical, but I'm not convinced that humour from the mid nineties was all that great. Barring Red Dwarf.

First off Halo and Medal of Honor are still around, weather you personally like the latest titles or not. Secondly, Duke Nukem is almost guaranteed to NOT do that well. Not because it won't be a good game, but because a lot of people have probably forgotten about it and pretty much the only game the current generation of gamers care about is anything with "Call of Duty" in the title.

Sad really...

You've been on the internet for years and you never heard of 'guise'? lol It's very common.

Anyway, I've never played a DN game and this game just looks like an ordinary shooter to me. Just with boobs. Which means DAY ONE PURCHASE!

Oh come on guys, what's all the fuss about :P I played the game on bf's machines and it's pretty cool, aside from sixist comments. :P

Seriously, I'll totally buy him this as a b-day present or something when it comes out, he's hyped like a little girl :hehe:

I'll be closely watching ebay or Amazon to check the price of Duke Nukem's bust. It's much more important than the game. :D

If the price is more than the Balls of Steel edition, I might be tempted to buy it then. But only for the Bust!

Imma go ahead and say...

YAWN!!!!

Not sure how many of you were around or remember I was the one several years ago who posted on this very site an original add from 1998 for DNF. Now, that add I had is long gone, since moving several times and getting married it's disappeared.

Now, while the game does look visually good and it may be a walk down memory lane, especially for me..I remember when DN was a side scroller and loved it then loved Duke 3d but "....after 12 [censored] years...."?

No thanks.

I'll pass on this one...maybe pick it up when it hits the bargain bin.

"What, did you think I was gone forever?" - Duke Nukem

Yeah, we did. Should've stayed gone too.

EDIT:

On the plus side, it's nice to see they left a lot of the old weapons the same.

Well a sad fact is that ANY new fps that comes along will inevitably be dismissed as "not as good as COD lol this game svck, *back to Blops* Z0MG h4rdsc0p3r NUB! LOLOLOLOL U MAD BRO?!?!?!?!?!?!?! l2 n0 sc0p3 f4g" Just like how any new MMO will be stacked up to WoW, most people, like me will simply buy it because it's a classic, I want something refreshing other than todays common FPS's, can I pick up poo and throw it in call of gears: medal of duty? Nothing is sacred anymore :(

Although the Duke's bad language was censored at parts and there were no naked women, I loved Duke Nukem 3D's verison on the N64, mainly because of the co-op mode.

Is it refreshing, though? Is it not just another tacky shooter with a frachise for people desperately clinging to their childhood?

That's more than a little uncalled for. I know that it will be refreshing for me, by the way. I'm sick of playing games that take themselves too seriously, ala Call of Duty and the like.

You spelled franchise wrong by the way. :P
