Gun Attachtment Discussion

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:41 am

Ok so we have already seen quite a bit of attachtments to be unlocked from videos, but what would you like to add/see?
also here is a list from the Brink wiki
# Adjusted Iron Sights
# Red Dot Sight
# Holographic Sights
# Silencer
# Four-Vent Muzzle Break
# Six-Vent Muzzle Break
# Front Grip
# Gun Sling
# High-Capacity Magazine
# Duct-Taped Magazine
# Submachinegun Drum Magazine
# Accurate X-Ray Scope

and the one the strikes me is the last one, accurate x-ray scope? how will it work? will it be balanced? so many questions so little answers, feel free to pipe in and be as mean as you want

I'd really like to see some form of Shotgun attachment for no reason

X ray will probably allow irradiation of enemy players as a form of DoT

I'm going to guess X ray scope makes it so you can see through things and see the skeletons of players instead of their flesh. Like detective vision in batman arkham asylum. Holographic site sounds intriguing. I would like to learn more about that.

DOT = Damage over time.

Sounds kind of OP to me...well, I think if you find a was to balance it, it could be realy fun.

I think the X-ray scope won't be a problem. You can't shoot through walls and it's pretty useless as "ironsight".
The other attachments seem fine. I don't need much to be satisfied.

Eotech is holographic like you said. But holographic =/= X-ray.
X-ray is like seeing bones trough flesh/ seeing people trough walls. Holographic is just a better and more advanced red dot. In games they do not differ so much, but in real life holographic is waaay better.

As long as there are no thermal scopes.

I would be fine with them as long as everything else is straight black and only thing you see are the white bodies. Seeing as there is no real sniping the thermal scope would kill you in any battle up to around 45 meters, we dont even know if there are any good unobstructed places for long range firefights and basing off the half a clip to kill anolysis from people who actually played the game you would have to be packing some pretty good aim to kill someone from that far away.

A bayonet could be an interesting addition, though I can't help but feel that it would be easily overpowered or useless.

Bayonet would feel outdated, plus lights are supposed to have the only non blunt force melee

Exactly. You want a blade have a pistol secondary.

I wouldn't mind the light classes being able to add a bayonet, but then again they already have the knife if they want melee, I think a gun stand for the heavy guns would be interesting.

heavies are too immobile already, having to be still while using a gun stand leaves them vulnerable to backtabs even if their shielded it leaves two people immobilized rooted at a single spot, this is disaster waiting to happen.
An attachment I would add is a folding stock, compromises little in weight and conceal-ability but greatly reduces recoil though I don't see recoil being a problem in Brink so it could be a bad idea.

It's not impossible, I don't think, but it would be useless. X-Rays won't let you see through walls and stuff. X-Rays only pierce soft materials such as skin and organs. Basically, if you used X-Ray vision you would be able to see people's skeletons and perhaps what's inside someone's backpack. You wouldn't be able to see through walls or anything.

Although, I did find this: http://www.gizmag.com/go/5032/

That's not really an X-Ray scope though. It would be neat to see something like this in the game though, maybe. As long as it isn't abused as a camping tool like the heartbeat sensor was in that one game.

I was just wondering what you guys think about an idea i thought of for attachments, besides the obvious (grenade launcher, scope, silencer etc.). Correct me or tell me i'm stupid. :icecream:

Rifle draw knife attachments - Some rifles have handles, like the UMP. Instead of a Bayonet attachment, why not make that handle a knife? just pull the handle from the gun then BAM! you now have a quick draw knife rifle, no need to put blood on your stock. Tho the bayonet might be quicker, but no swinging. just stabs.

Now about that x-ray scope thing, unless it can see through walls i'd say its just another thermal scope. it might work somehow, like it can only see in a small radius, if you guys played splinter cell conviction your goggles don't have much range, you would know what i mean :hubbahubba:

'x ray' might not actually mean x ray. x rays just have the conotation that they can see through things, but we don't yet know the details so mostly just speculation. I could see the use of a scope teing able to see through thin walls, (like the anger stabbing at the bug in the cinematic (yea, i know theres no stab through walls). But it won't be able to go through anything thick and might obscure your vision a little to balance it out. but like I said speculation.

they have mentioned them yes, but the list seems to be from the wiki and those havent been added for what ever reason.

on the subject of bayonets, I kinda want one just for aesthetic purposes, probably on the front of a shot gun, like ogryns from WH40k. would be cool to have resistance just strap a combat knife onto the front of their gun, I can really see a menacing looking dirty knife just held to the barrel by duct tape.
