Gun Runners Arsenal: Too expensive weapons!

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 4:26 pm

When you download the GRA add-on you find different mods, guns, and perks. I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that the GRA weapons, the good ones, are too expensive. Even if you go gamble in all of the casino's in the game and hit the jackpot limit in all of them if you're lucky you can only afford about three of those guns. Not to mention the mods for them, ammo, and other expences through out the game. What kind of crazieness is that?

If they weren't expensive, it would be very easy to attain them at a low level. And they really aren't that expensive imo, especially if you have Dead Money.

True, you can turn those gold bars in with the traders but the most you can carry is five six if you don't bring any weapons or items back from the add-on and you can't go back to get more.

This or LR... If you play LR and Sell regularly you will be swimming in caps..
It is the final DLC... ie it will add higher end "normal" weapons... Its unique weapons are OP'd for many lower to even midlevel characters..
In other words this DLC is catering to people who complained about meeeh weapons when they started a new game (because trader inventories are leveled) and to people who are at a high level and want weapons catered to their favorite fighting style..
Since these weapons are basically aimed lvl 20+, most of these people will have enough caps...

I am very glad that they are so expensive, every game where you can buy equipment should have some super expensive stuff. This means that it becomes a challenge to get them and challenge equals fun in games.

This being said usually by the time I get to about level 20, I have too many caps then I know what to do with. The quickest I have ever bought a GRA weapon was Paciencia the first time I reached Novac on that playthrough. As I always say: scavenge like hell.

Invest in the Jury Rigging perk at lvl 14. You will have no problem making caps. You don't even have to do Dead Money if you don't want to deal with the hassle.

The weapons and armor from the Divide sell for a ridiculous amount of money.

The Gold Bars sell for a ridiculous amount of money. In case you didn't know, you can leave the Sierra Madre with all 37 of them, too.

There's lots of little nifty stuff in OWB I still find on my main character that can sell decently.

Honest Hearts has some pretty nice exploration so there's lots of areas to pick up stuff from.

Win some games at a Casino.

This list can go on FOREVER.

Jury Rigging? DM is a hassle?

Jury Rigging: If you didn't know, an example for it would be this: You can now repair a hunting rifle with a sniper rifle. Kind of like that. It gives you a huge variety to repair, instead of the same exact item being required. Combat Armor can be repaired with Elite Riot Gear. ETC.

DM is not a hassle.

You have all made very valid points. I now see how I can make more caps and the reson behind the expensive guns.

Thank You

looks like everyone beat me to it, lol. If you don't have the add-ons, Fiends, Super Mutants, Jury Rigging, Casinos, along with weapon Repair Kits can easily slam your butt from poor chum, to the richest person in the Mojave Wasteland. Why just the Casinos itself (all 3) will throw in around over 20k in caps. That's a crap load, and as soon as I hit Novac, I usually have more then enough to aquire the Hyperbreeder in my EW playthrough (which is a very expensive weapon), so overall, shouldn't be a problem.

I never found any of the GRA weapons to be too expensive. Even at early levels. In my Legion Spy Playthrough I made it my mission to get the katana as early as possible. By level 4 I already had all the modifications for the katana. It wasn't long after that I made it to Mick and Ralph's and spent my last cap (and traded some of my equipment) for the katana. I did this by rushing through the locations and not completing any quests. (except for some easy ones like goodsprings, Report what happened at Nipton, and the Brahmin killing Nightkin for his minigun.)

They're really not that expensive. Just start using the weapon you have for a while and the caps will stack.

 If you take the perk... you might want to do that the other away around..

I think OP is talking about the Unique weapons.. Katana is affordable..
(But things like Sleepytime, Paciencia, etc.. are really expensive)

Yeah I know the katana is affordable but the non unique weapons with (GRA) at the end of the name are pretty good until you can afford the unique ones. I got the katana by level 4 by cheesing it to Freeside. You should be able to afford your first unique GRA weapon by level 10 if you plan it right.

"Cheesing it to Freeside"?

Do the uniques look different, or just named different with better stats?

They are, for the most part unique..., though in some cases heavily reskinned versions of existing weapons..

I can't find someone who sells the Katana, all I've seen so far is the Mod for the Katana from a Legion vendor

Spoiler
I bought mine from Mick and Ralph's, after I passed the speech check to have Mick show me his special stock.

i like the expensive weapons, gives me another reason to compulsively scavenge everything. also it is worth noting GRA was released as an end game dlc, and as such, is aimed at high level characters. and like others have said, it is really easy to make money.

the casinos will net about 50k by just hitting the limit. you can use it for weapons, or you can use it (like me) to pay for all the implants.

jury rigging...cannot recommend this perk enough. even if you're not using it for money making purposes, i find it the single most useful perk in the game (just for the armor).

dead money....finish it, win at the sierra madre, convert chips to pre war money, take all the gold (if you didn't leave with all 37, you're not trying hard enough) and the vending machine pretty much guarantees you will be rich before you know it. also, everything you scavenge in DM, make sure to sell for pre war money. i routinely leave DM with well over 250k worth of gold, pre war money, and loot.

all the dlc's are money making mines. by just looting/repairing/selling all the weapons you will be absolutely loaded with caps.

mojave: black mountain, fiend territory, and hit squads are my favorites for high quality weapons. after level 20, legion hit squads carry some really impressive firepower.

If you want to bring back things from Dead Money through out the full add-on go to the fountain and drop EVERYTHING you don't need most if not all of it will stay there or should.
I walked out with at least one of everything

Also I found it easy to get caps for all the new weapons, making explosives and selling them.

I don't find them too expensive I normally just scavenge and get about 4 snow globs by the time I see Mr. House and have a total of about 10-15k caps, depending on barter skill, even without barter skill the snow globs are an easy way of income

Of course...

There's only one Elite Riot Gear in the whole game, and about 20,000 combat armors. (Just kidding there, aren't that many, but still.)

The HOloVendors in Dead Money won't trade with me even tho I have Pre war money and so do they. They still list Caps 0 at the transaction level. I have just collected the 3 followers and I'm about to drop the last one off
