Gun Runners, awful weapons :S

Post » Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:08 am

How comes when you go to the Gun Runners outside NV, the guy outside boasts about how they sell the best guns in the Mojave Wasteland, then when you go up to the booth, you see some pretty impressive looking guns, but as soon as you talk to the robot to "purchase" some of the weapons, they have a really awful suggestion that you can just loot off Fiends and Powder Gangers?

Is there a quest or something that I need to do to make them get better weapons, or do I just have to raid their factory?

Not sure what part of the Ukraine you are from comrade but the Gun Runners have always had a good selection of 100% condition weaponry, expensive as hell, but then again I only ever bought the AMR from em.

Yeah I'm wondering this too. I'm level 17 and have my guns skill to 100, and I haven't found anything stronger than the trail carbine (which is still awesome). I want a sniper rifle or the anti material rifle or some other single shot rifle.

On a side note....

I thought every weapon can have mods? Every merchant I talk to only has mods for .44 magnums, service rifles, varmint rifles, and 9mm pistols; only mods for the weaker weapons. I'm still searching for a silencer for my 10mm pistol.

If you search the tents in Mccarren base, there's a sniper riffle on a bed. And you don't take a karma hit when taking it.

A lot of the mods only appear on the vendors rarely.... only saw a silencer for my 12.7mm smg once and I snagged that bad boy up..... and that was even with hitting all the major vendors after doing every single quest.

There were quite a few mods for the high end weapons that I only saw on the vendors once ever....and since I didnt have the money for them at the time I felt kind of cheated.

Spoiler is mod list.
Spoiler

.357 Heavy Duty barrel, very ornate.
.44 Long barrel
Cowboy repeater, Maple stock / custom action.
Varmint Rifle, Night scope, extended mags? (not confirmed by me) suppressor.
Mini gun, High speed motor
Sniper rifle, Suppressor, carbon fiber parts.
Anti mat rifle, ?
9MM, Scope, extended mags.
Assault carbine, Bolt assembly (not exact name, makes it fire faster).
10MM extended mags. (possible scope)

Energy weapons have lots of mods too, but i don't recall them, because I never used them.

There are more, like above for the 12.7MM gun. But these are all I have seen in 48 hours, not counting energy weapons.

I bought the Anti-Material Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Assault Carbine, LMG, and so many high-tier weapons from there. Sure, they were expensive, but they were damn good weapons.

The only good gun they had was the ranger sequoia and that's only because it counted as stealing when the
Spoiler
ncr ranger killed himself
so I could buy it back. I was hoping they had a detonator since I could use one for C4...

Whoa. What?

Everything they sell is in perfect condition. Unless you bought out their stock and left them only with the garbage you sold them. Then you need to wait a few days for the inventory to cycle.

If you don't like exploits, don't read the following spoiler.

Spoiler
You can exploit this merchant. They have only one of any kind of weapon every time they cycle. I was able to sell an old .44 Magnum at 25% condition and then exploit buy/sell with that same weapon; each time I sold it back I made about a 500 cap profit. I had to crank my Barter up with a magazine; I think I was around 50 Barter. Took about an hour but I was able to buy up the entire inventory.

As for raiding the factory:

Spoiler
There are only a couple of weapons to be found inside. Unless you're on a related quest, it's kind of a waste of either reputation or a stealth boy depending on how you play.

Did you do something wrong, speech or action-wise, so that they won't sell to you? That's the only thing I can think of, because it's a shop for me.

As far as i can tell the higher your level the better the guns they sell you, at 20 i can buy pretty much any weapon from them expect for the 12.7mm pistol and smg, where as back when i first found them back at level 5 or 6 i could'nt even buy 10mm pistols or smgs.

All the weapons they sell (other then the ones you sell to them) are at 100% condition so they cost a bit more then at other places but you won't need to repair them right after you buy them.

The higher the level you are the better the weapons you can get. Get to a higher level.
Spoiler
There is nothing in the factory really so there is no point in knocking it over.

The Gun Runners have excellent weapons, and I'm a regular customer. Do wish they had some more explanation as the details of their expansion. Or am I just not looking hard enough?

This is what I've noticed. NPC vendors reach their "best" inventory when the PC hits level 20.

Its an energy weapon, and somewhat offtopic, but the Gauss rifle off a few BoS npcs (and one was in a locker somewhere in the wastes but I unfortunately don't recall.) is a super powerful single-shot weapon, with a sweet scope.

As for the Gun Runners, yes same experience as most other people, the really good stuff doesn't get put on the table til > lvl 20. Granted there are some other NCR and Im sure other faction merchants with some damn good guns too at that point.

Gauss Rifle is an energy weapon, i believe. Silver Rush is to energy weapons as Gun Runners is to regular guns.

Ah, this may be because I am only level 6!
But the only problem is Silver Rush was selling very powerful weapons from the start of the game, so I don't see how that's fair :)

Yes i believe that the higher level you are then the better guns you could purchase.

As for the Factory behind the store, All i found of value was the combat armor worn by the guard :D. I haven't taken it off since.

Hmm i got my .50 cal antimaterial sniper rifle from them :).

Spoiler
I've found "sometimes" if you save before entering the zone the shop is in, the shop sells different items, go back to a save game before you entered the zone and talk to them again they may have different stock, (just going back to a save before talking to them again does not work you must go back to a save before you entered the zone)
also try sleeping (not resting) for 24 hours after you last talked to them "sometimes" they have different stock,
note that both sometimes are in inverted commas it does not always work.

Man, the Anti material rifle + incendiary ammo = 1 hit kills with almost everything, including Deathclaws. That weapon is a beast.

Thanks for all the posts guys :)

Yeah, I've gotten further in the MQ, and levelled up a bit, and now I've got a fully Modded Hunting Rifle (minus the scope), and a Plasma Rifle with the bit that increases the speed of the projectile (I can't remember what its called)

The stock of the different vendors "upgrade" aswell as you level up.
I usually have to be around level 18 or so before the Gun Runners start to sell the AmR and other goodies. Might be that game difficulty effects this aswell though. not sure.
