Gunners?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 1:20 pm

Hey I'm sure this has been posted countless times before or asked in other threads but I could never find an answer.

Anyhow, why does it seem like it was intended for you to be able to talk to or perhaps join the Gunners? Am I the only guy who gets this feeling?

The mission where you meet K1 (i'll leave it as ambigious as that due to spoilers), plus the mission where you along with some gunners are hired to clear an area of raiders. For the first mission mentioned it seemed like you could have entered conversation with the gunner sarge, but he just repeats the same line over and over, as if something was scrapped or intentionally not included. For the second mention, you are a mercenary alongside gunners, and due to your reputation and performance during the mission, shouldn't you maybe be able to have had a conversation with the gunner coworkers?

Maybe I'm just clinging to some small hope of being able to do missions and such for the gunners, and thus overthinking things...

As far as I'm concerned, Gunners are wasteland scum. I kill them on sight, provided I have some spare carrying capacity. I saw them kill a poor, harmless Yao Guai, so I avenged my Ursine brethren and ended the entire encampment.

I wouldn't join them even if I had the choice.

They're Talon Co. as far as I'm concerned. Kill on sight.

They keep showing up and attacking my farms. Not exactly "I want some of that" material.

Over thinking it. They are fallout 4's talon company. There are a few times you can talk to them and they try to extort you so you either walk the other way, pay them, or blast them. Maybe a DLC will explore them as a joinable faction, but I wouldn't really see a need when they're just a typical gang with better gear, like the forge.

Game doesn't really leave you a choice, seeing as they blast you on sight. Maybe it's their gimmick that gets to me. Plus, their symbol looks like Iron Maiden.

Mercs being mercs, I would like to think it sensible to be able to disguise yourself as one of them, and do some mercenary work just for the caps. No big story-arc or anything.

I had the exact same thought, when they were all submissive during the mission and you could essentially free them, or kill them, that seemed like a great opportunity to get within their ranks.

Sure, but my point being that they conduct themselves no better than Raiders. They don't just take jobs, they glorify and enjoy the violence. "Best Mercenaries in the Commonwealth" basically translates as "Biggest and most well-armed group of Raiders who will temporarily not kill you if you pay them.".

Yeah, scummy Raiders, like I said.

But wouldn't it be neat if you had a quest line where you could steer at least some of them on a better path?

Not that I've let any of them live long enough to find out...

Chaotic Evil characters are always fun to have from time to time.

And to be honest, they don't feel like raiders. They're too organized and tactical for that. They've got a basic military hierarchy, where as raiders tend to stick to the whole "most ruthless is best leader". They seem to be the type of guys that would, if they wanted to or could, establish a military dictatorship. The only faction that are just "scummy raiders" are, in fact, the ones titled raiders. Every "faction" that has a gimmick or a name also has a purpose. The gunners, unlike raiders, seem to have scouting outposts and Headquarters, and bases of operations, whereas the small raider camps are more like tiny raider settlements, and all the raiders are divided.

Then again I think Fallout 4 suffers from a "faction deficiency", leading to a lack of flavour and... Choice? Right now we have the Star Wars Rebel Alliance, SPEHS MAHREENS MULTIPLE SIMULTANEOUS BAHTLE BROTHERS, *X-files themesong*, and of course, least we forget, the Miniscule Men.

The lack of Caesars Legion has left a void in my soul.

First meeting: Me walking up ramp to say hello.

Them turning on there gun turrets on me and me running like a wabbit...

Second meeting: Me killing them as soon as I see them and stripping their gear.

*shrugs* guess that's life in the wasteland.

If I remember right they used to be a part of the Minutmen before the Massacre thing. Sems like they hold the Highway ruins. At least from what I've seen so far.
