Guns or Energy Weapons

Post » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:10 am

Personally I'm still deciding. Most of my skill points that I set aside for offensive skills are in guns, but when I walked into the Silver Rush, my mouth started watering. Then when I started working for them and used one of their weapons, I fell out of my seat. There's still that satisfaction of killing something with a bullet though.

I prefer guns but do sometimes use energy weapons.

Normally it's Energy Weapons but they seem nerfed in New Vegas.

I will agree that the energy weapons I've seen do little damage. I think there was a point when they announced a special energy weapon, the recharger rifle, that recharges itself. I believe the energy weapon enthusiasts went berserk with joy. Then when you go to buy it, it's max damage is 5. Lol

Well it's good for clearing out lesser leveled mobs without having to waste expensive ammo but yeah it isn't a very good rifle.

Depends on the character, in Fallout 3 i have one that uses only Energy Weapons, one that uses small guns and one that uses big guns. Since New Vegas has only guns skill i guess i have a weak gun user and a strong gun user. BTW, does that mean that Gattling Laser is an Energy weapon?

I like normal guns.

If i replay the game I'll probably change to Energy weapons or explosives.

The -only- reason that I dislike energy weapons is the disintegration/decomposition.

Ash/goo is bad, mkay?

If anyone knows how to globally remove these effects (I would rather they act just like any other gun when it comes to corpse mangling) I would be keen on finding out. I'm willing to fire up the GECK.

My experience with Energy Weapons has been terrible. Lousy damage, hard to find ammunition, less variety than guns and it's also harder to aim because some energy weapon "projectiles" are too damn slow. It went so far that I use Guns over Energy Weapons with my character who has 15 in Guns and 100 in EW. The only good weapon I found so far is the Incinerator, but it's not what I had in mind when i chose EW.

True, it's not as satisfying melting an enemy into a pile of green much instead of putting a .50 cal bullet into them and watching their head pop like a water balloon.

I always go guns. Energy weapons can be fun but I find them a pain to use early on, but regardless I'll have an energy weapon run through when I've had my fill of guns.

Guns skill also has a lever action rifle. I love lever action rifles. So much.

There's a weapon mod for that :P

I have not tried it as I don't use plasma, but it should help.

AM I THE ONLY ONE... who really hates how laser pistols/rifles have no ironsights!?

They added them to the plasma rifle! (but not the pistol).

Grr.

It's much more tolerable. The effects are interesting, and much less annoying-sounding. EVE also did far more than just changing the death effects :D
