Guns!

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 12:38 pm

Who else thinks that there should be 1600s era muskets and early rifles in Skyrim? Imagine shooting down a dragon with a well placed musket shot to the heart! Anyone else think this is a great idea! Bows and arrows are so overdone.

You are in the vast minority. The majority is big and angry and they violently do not want guns.

This will end badly.

I honestly could picture muskets in Skyrim. But I don't think they should be in the base game. But somebody I'm sure will mod them in.

This isn't the 1600s. This is a fantasy game. Which don't have guns.

Period.

No get out of here. And even if they did add guns, bows would be much better because of the fact that if took so long to load.

No, plus why would an inventor invent guns when magic is available and so much more powerful and efficient than a single shot handloading rifle?

Not the way you described it. I think that, since Skyrim takes place later on in the timeline, the technology should have improved to the point where guns could have been used, but power-hungry mages have been keeping it down. There could be some quests related to it, which result in a bit of a shift in power. This introduce the beginnings of technology into Skyrim, and that can really be exploited in TES VI.

Or, since it's been so damn long since Oblivon, we can have primitive "magical" guns. A lot of people are against it, but don't seem to realize that technology does evolve. In a high-magic environment, like TES, it can evolve along the lines of "magical technology", which is actually pretty prevalent in media.

Why stop at guns? Imagine fighting dragons with a Javelin anti-tank missile - or going after hordes with RPGs. They could even implement a basic flight simulator, and let us fly a Dwemer stealth bomber over Skyrim, and let us nuke the bad guys with JDAMs. And, of course, we could take out the Akaviri in an expansion by liberal use of ICBM's - preferably with MIRV warheads.

Or, we could not...

Sorry man, but you came into the war guns blazing about 2 weeks after the treaty was signed. The gun question has been asked, discussed, fought bitterly over, and let die.

The majority opinion is that while guns seem cool to some, and could be explained in the elder scrolls universe, a lot of people just do NOT want guns because they want elder scrolls to stay the way it is ( I agree )

A steam powered Dwemer bolt rifle I can imagine, but no historical guns. Next to being terribly inefficient with all the magic available I do not believe that guns will ever function in the Elder Scrolls setting.

This game takes place 200 years (or is it 300? I forget, but either way its a while) in the future from Oblivion. And as an archeology major I'm sure guns would have been developed by this time. I'm not saying guns should be in the game. But it is a very plausible scenario. If done right I honestly could see it. As time progresses, technology changes, that's how the world works, at some point in the time line there will be more advanced technology, maybe not this game but eventually.

Magic IS the TES universe's technology. Since anyone in Tamriel who wants to can learn magic, there is no need for mechanical technology.

There's not a word in the dictionary to exaggerate "No" as my answer.

EDIT: Seeing that you joined January 2011 gives me the impression that you have no/little knowledge of The Elder Scrolls lore and the setting that The Elder Scrolls takes place in and that you were introduced to The Elder Scrolls because of Skyrim which has little information given. Correct me if I'm wrong, because guns were never and will never be in The Elder Scrolls..EVER!
