Guns.

I don't want guns. I mean, a lot of people already think that Oblivion is Fallout without guns...

The way I've always heard it is "Fallout is Oblivion with guns", not the way you put it.

The fact that you said it the other way, along with introducing the topic in the first place, and phrasing your comments as if the demand for guns is common.... suggests you might have been looking to stir up controversy where there isn't really any. But maybe that's just me.

When I said "Game isn't finished. Confirmed.", I was referring to what the dev said. Sorry for the confusion.

Alright, sorry for being a bit antagonistic. I was expecting something more specific.

Since it has been a huge topic on another forum I've recently visited, I'm really curious what you think about this. What is your opinion on including guns.

No, never, don't want'em, leave'em in Fallout and out of TES.

Well, I don't know if someone has already started this subject but I'm really curious.

Let's type "guns" into the search bar prominently placed at the top right of the page, and see what happens:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1179027-old-style-guns/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1168415-guns-yes-or-no/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1168359-guns/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1164449-guns/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159640-guns/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1149600-guns/

Yep...looks like somebody's started it before. More than once.

I don't want guns. I mean, a lot of people already think that Oblivion is Fallout without guns, and let's face it, it is a medieval theme RPG. Guns won't fit the theme and I think it will be ruined. Of course Skyrim will be some years ahead and there might be a few technological changes, but I don't want any guns.

And this was pretty much the conclusion of all the threads that posed the question: "No guns."

I love guns. I have like six. I like to play FPS, but I do not want guns in TES. It doesn't matter if it matches the time period of the game. Just no.

The dragon's won't know what hit them. Between dragonshouts which recharge, and staves with an unlimited supply of energy, you're basically Tri-wielding an unlimited amount of fire power. Better yet, it takes no marksman skill to hit something far away with a staff, so you don't even need to bother worrying about missing cause your eyes svck. A god mode which other modes fail to even come close to!

Perhaps not in Skyrim.

However, I might rather enjoy some Bethesda open world games (sandbox) featuring times in Earth's history from the 1600's through the Victorian Era to include things happening in the New World.

I really prefer my Skyrim without guns, but if guns are present, I could adapt and create a new character to accommodate that issue.

I am quite aware that Earth is not Nirn, however, my mental concept of Skyrim envisions a time on Earth from about 500-1100.

A time before guns were introduced to Europe.

I am not sure what technological advances may have taken place on the continent of Tamriel, by 4E 200. Others may have a different vision.

I am excited that we have one handed staves. I'm going to use Drain Health in one and Soul Trap in the other. All I need is a large collection of Soul Gems and I'm dual wielding TES guns with unlimited ammo lol.

I did too. Wow that is kind of sad.

Edit: @bigmac2134: No, Peter Molyneux ruined Fable. But then again he gave the ok on guns so you are still technically correct. He also made armor useless, ruined the story, made magic simplistic and stupid, and broke everything else.

yea i agree, stupid devs and trying to make games for more casual gamers, ruined DA:2 for me as well, i only can now only believe in Bethesda for my RPG addiction

You say that, but staves are all ready in and people actually want those to be stronger. So...I don't really see any logic in not adding guns. Staves already trump anything a gun could possibly hope to be. There all ready are cannons in TES. People always want more variation in weaponry. Marksman skill could use some other weapons in its class besides the bow. It adds to replayability because you could make a character that only uses guns. And for the cherry on top, it could add to different kinds of enemy's one could encounter.

Do I wan't guns that shoot bullets? Not really, I all ready have a collection of staves with all types of different effects from fire to lightning to soul trap, which all have universal ammo, ammo that is easy to get, a daedric artifact that acts like a reusable ammo battery, I can now duel wield them, it takes no skill to use them, and they're so powerful they can make a redguard swordsman look like a mage.

I'd rather have TES tech advance in a fashion that makes some sense, instead of not at all because it would be different than how Earth advanced. They don't really need to invent guns, because they got something 20x better. However, they could grow a head on their shoulders and make a stave that uses two hands and you hold it up to your eyes to increase accuracy. That's the kind of tech I'd like to see. Magic doesn't stop the advancement of tech. Magic means tech would advance in a different direction. TES could easily have a Revolution like our Inustrial Revolution. They'd just need the right things to happen at the right time with the right people. Mass production of things like nails to build homes, mass production of magical heaters that are safer than open flame fireplaces and are more efficient...

I could go on. Skyrim probably isn't going to be the center of innovation. But later on in TES's life, maybe when we finally get to go to Summerset Isles, I could see it start to happen. Guilds would start to evolve, and workers in the guilds may start to specialise in order to make their goods faster. It's not like stuff like this is impossible. If the demand was there, I'm sure it would happen.

Read first page, can't bother to read the rest after reading about 400 pages on this topic.

No guns for me. If you want guns there are other games, hell even play Fable then.

The closet I want to see as a gun is the Crossbow like we had in Morrowind. That is it, so bring the Crossbow back.

Issue is, every time someone says "guns" people think M16, SCAR, MP5, 44 magnum, Beretta, etc...

The reality is, a hand cannon would fit perfectly within the theme and setting of TES. Here is a "gun" created around the 11th-12th century, that had no trigger, no sights, no grip, fired just one pellet, and after firing one pellet, it doubled as a war club.

I doubtpeople are thinking, modern weapons...

We know what the gunners are talking about, crude firearms, still don't want them.

I don't want guns in the sense of GUNS.
Magical staves, more advanced bows, etc are fine with me, just not mechanical sticks that fire bullets.

Magic takes the place of advanced technology.
Why bother developing some metal device that shoots metal balls, when you can easily get a wooden staff that shoots explosive fireballs?
Why would guns be developed if there's already something that fulfills its purpose?

The things that instigated the evolution of technology in our world are also present in TES, but the inhabitants of Nirn have MAGIC. We don't.
