The trippy colors is a common glitch with the old games. The easy solution is to alt+tab back to your desktop and then click back into the game. This'll force a refresh and get everything back to normal. Sometimes you have to try it a couple of times before it works; and it can come back again while you're playing (in which case just do the same thing - switch back to your desktop and then click back into the game.)

Hello Friends,

So i am not an advanced pc user. Please go into detail to help my sorry ass. I just bought the fallout trilogy for my pc, and I have no reason to believe that it can't run it because my pc is new. The drivers are updated, the system meets requirements and the game is new off the shelf. Normally this would result in a grand game experience, however with this 1995 game, it results in a disappointment. The colors are off, the game black screens (where I have to move my mouse around to reveal the game), and the game freezes (usually when I die, but sometimes randomly). What do I do? Download updates/patches? There aren't official ones? Windows key to downscreen? The game is frozen. I'm pretty pissed cuz I was uber xcited to play the orig fallout and fallout 2. Pleaaaasse help a brother out with your knowledge!

P.S. I'm inebriated to be gracious!

Look http://www.interplay.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1673. You want bullet point 2.

Edit: That might not work for fallout 1, depending on which version of the trilogy you picked up. If you don't have a ddraw.ini, look up the hi res patch, and use the 16 bit colour mode it offers. That'll fix the broken colours, and may or may not help with the black screens.
