I highly doubt that an Xbox could handle having to render the game twice. There could be a SpecOps like mode, but splitscreen would be impossible on the hardware in an Xbox (or a PS3 for that matter)

Sure, Reach can handle 4 player splitscreen and got quite equal graphics despite other design.
That said, I doubt that the engine could handle it, it is a PC engine and hence coded for 1 person sitting in his room, not 2-4 socialising and playing in the couch.
I doubt it, even if it would be quite possible.

it'd take more cpu power for the console if it had a spec ops thing. any1 else notice ten times more lag in a coop session than a fragfest? yeah thats internet wise but also, its MORE CPU usage to have 2 players versus lots of bad guys, vehicles, special events, and lord knows what else. less cpu power for multiplayer games where a LOT less spectacular stuff needs to happen.

if my xbox could handle the spec ops than im all for it. but there DEFINITLY needs to be splitscreen multiplayer, that works like halo reach's. (2 ppl on 1 console still matchmaking ya know?)

Spliscreen really is a make or break Crysis to me, at least for 360.
If they add it, I'll buy it since I can play with my freinds/girlfriend, if they don't er'll just stick to the games that support it, like Borderlands, Halo, CoD, the list goes on.
Split screen on consoles are at least as important as dedicated servers and modtools on PC.
Sure, graphics would be worse but that wouldn't really matter :)

Wont happen.

The fact that one instance of Crysis 2 doesnt melt a 360/ps3 is incredible. Rendering everything twice would either result in less than 50% the fps (enjoy sub-15fps...), or overheating like crazy, or both.

Crytek has already said that the consoles cannot handle the graphics processing it takes to render two different inputs and outputs on a single system.

I literally think your Xbox would catch fire if you tried to render two separate scenes at the same time. That being said, it'd be great to have, if it was physically possible in the first place.

It will be fun with some co-op mode(s=. But I don`t know if the X360 can take it.

Split screen should be possible since they are rendering two images anyway when running at 3D. Which is why Killzone 3 has split screen.

The 3D system Crytek has developed only takes 1.7 extra percent of processing power to run. They have a different system than flat out rendering the scene twice in a row for a much more optimized effect.

Yep. I believe they render a depth-map and basically off-set the pixels or something. As Talon said, its a ~1.7% performance hit, not 50% of doing it the old way.

Also, KZ2 had some unstable FPS, and doesnt even run in 720p. Crysis 2 looks better, runs in 720p and gets solid 30fps (drops to 29.955fps in worst case).... on the 360 at least. Should be the same on the pc.

Most games these days actuarially down grade their textures in slit screen, you can spot this the most with soft particals and Opec objects (grass and other flat objects), so that it can cope with the render in time.

personally i think its time for the new xbox to come out and crytek should bang this up for that but hey i ain't Microsoft lol

Um killzone 2 is running native @ 720p no less. Also Killzone uses real aa unlike crysis 2 :P Also killzone 3 is going to support split screen while being as graphically as good as Crysis 2 for the ps3 most likely. It just seems to me crytek is getting lazy and doesn't want to support it.

Splitscreen would really help Crysis getting good sales, almost every other FPS on consoles got it, and the competition is quite stiff. Though, they maybe must fail this time so they'll learn the next, and implement splitscreen.
Would be better for everyone if it was present, more buyers and happy buyers = happier developers and more cash

Go cloak and stand in water then tell me that again, you get ~10 FPS easily by doing that.

The main reason I buy a games console is for the option of split screen play with my friends on local off-line mulitplayer and (but not essential) split screen campaign. It can obviously be done if you look at the sheer range of FPS's that have successfully achieved it. Many games that don't offer this tend to get left behind in the console market, as I may aswell put together a budget gaming pc if I want to play confined to my own company 24/7.

The tremendous amount of options and keyboard/mouse set-ups available to pc gamers make gaming alone much more acceptable.
