Guys with girlfriendswives- the appeal of Fallout

This might seem like a really odd topic, but it's something that honestly bothers me. If any guys with girlfriends or wives would be so kind as to respond, I'd greatly appreciate it. Anyone else is more than welcome to join in as well, of course.

The problem is this: I have a lovely girlfriend and we're going to move in together soon. She likes video games to some extent, she enjoys playing Pokémon and the Sims and she has also had some fun with Grand Theft Auto. I like games more than she does, mostly Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto and The Elder Scrolls. As much as I like these games, I love Fallout. I have played New Vegas for more hours than I'd like to admit. The thing is, I can see the Fallout 4 storm coming. We are going to be living together, and when that game comes out I'm going to be all over it. She knows I love Fallout, and she respects that. Still, I would really appreciate it if I can show her the appeal of Fallout.

I've tried to 'warm her up' to it by introducing her to TES: Skyrim. She loves medieval fantasy fiction, Game of Thrones and all that, so I thought that'd be an easy step into it. She was completely clueless though, she couldn't figure out the camera controls, she had no clue where to go and she was bored before she reached Baalgruff's castle.

I know there are some guys here whose girlfriends and wives like Fallout too, they even have their own savegames and all that. I would love to be able to explain the magic of Fallout to my old lady, but I really don't know how. I could try telling her: "Well, the world of Fallout took a different direction from ours after WWII, with a greater emphasis on technological progress while holding on to the culture of the 1950's. Then the Great War happened in 2077 and civilization was swept away. The game takes place approximately 200 years later, while descendants of war survivors try to scratch out a living among the ruins of the old world." Even though that sums up Fallout's history, it doesn't do the game justice. It's not just the story, it's the atmosphere, the roleplaying, the iconic look of the world. Talking to peasants, talking to faction leaders, shaping the future in the middle of the ruins of the world. Getting to know NPCs, and learning to love some of them. Feeling genuinely gutted and guilty when I couldn't save Veronica from the hands of a Deathclaw. Feeling touched and powerless when Graham told me of the pain he endures from his burns every day. Keeping an eye on ED-E to make sure enemies don't overwhelm him. Being angry and sad when Dean Domino left me no choice but to kill him, after all he's been through.

Lol, I got a bit carried away there. I love Fallout. Anyway, how do I explain the magic of Fallout to someone who has no history of playing RPGs, who quite honestly isn't very quick to learn game controls and who isn't into post-apocalyptic fiction? I really have no clue.

Maybe some of you do?

The best way to get anyone into a game is have them watch you play.
Not only can you show off some of the great things, she'll also see you having fun and might want to be a part of that experience.
