HACKED!

What he said.

Normally when I go on the net, I use proxy servers to keep myself anonymous. Also I use extensions and add on's to block advertisemant and of course script blockers.

I've been hacked once and that wasn't fun, I had to have my window's reinstalled because someone hacked my computer and installed some sort of weird malware. I'd prefer to prevent the next hack if possible.

I once gave out my password for my Habbo and lost all my dragon head things. I don't remember why I fell for this attempt, though, not a hack it's the only time I've known about someone getting my password

You can imput debit card information on a site that is requesting a credit card. I'm willing to bet that if you took your debit card to the grocery store and when you ran it through the machine, you'll get options for what type of card it is and if you select "Credit" it will still be accepted.

The information to imput is almost identical. You need the card number, the expiration date, and the security code which all credit and debit cards have embossed or printed on the card itself.

EDIT: nevermind, you're talking about a system I'm unfamiliar with. If your debit card doesn't have those 3 components, then you won't be able to use it like a credit card online. That being said, my debit card does have them but if I use it for an in-store purchase and use it as a debit card, I do need to enter a pin. If I use it as a credit card, depending on the amount I use it for, it typically requires a signature on an actual receipt or a digital pad.

Yes, the system used here works differently. I don't get any options, other than the possibility of getting cash back. The debit system used in Canada is strictly that, there's no credit aspect attached to it at all. For that I would need to use a separate credit card. I had assumed that the Interac system was an American one that we had adopted but apparently it's a "Made in Canada" service only, with some affiliations with other systems in the US. There are some Canadian retailers that do use Interac online but there are very few of them, and you need to deal with a specific financial institution in order to make it work. And mine is not one of them. Only the larger banks support it and I deal with a local credit union. And since I don't want anything to do with credit cards, I'll have to go through PayPal. Which is fine by me, it's more secure that way. With all the news stories of companies being hacked, with Sony being the latest in a long list this past year, I really don't have any confidence in using credit cards online. It's just asking for trouble IMO. By dealing with PayPal, I limit my exposure to just one entity, instead of every retailer I may do business with.
