[REQ] Hair Clipping Fix

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 7:58 am

So I have noticed that almost all helmets with an open-face have your character's hair poke out of it somewhere. There are a few exceptions to this, the Steel Horned Helmet being one of them, but the Dragonplate Helmet is a prime example of one of the many helms that are ridiculously glitched!

With a female character those flowing locks poke all through the bone mesh on the back of the helm and even through the solid steel front. I even made a bald character and his cueball scalp still poked through the back of the thing! I tried resizing his head and everything I can think of. It's just a bad mapping in the end. Argonians and Khajiit are exempt from this flaw it seems. Though any non-beast race is going to have clipping issues, at least all the ones I have tried thus far (Nord, Imperial, Orc, Redguard, Breton, Wood Elf).

I don't know if there is a solution to this already, but my searches have come up blank thus far. With the announcement of the CK on the way, I figured I would toss up this request ahead of time. If there is already a fix, I would love to see it, because these butchered meshes are ruining the immersion.

Since this has dropped to the fourth page with next to no views, I am gonna perform a bump, loathe as I am to do so.

C'mon people! Some sort of feedback would be nice.

This is an eye-sore for sure but I'm not sure yet if it is clipping or an alpha issue. I seem to recall reading some where that the alpha property on the helmet nifs were not correct.

Well either or. It is a bit disheartening coming from such a fantastic game. Hopefully there will be an official patch or fix rather than relying on the community to handle it. But I'm sure Bethesda has it's hands full these days.

Get a haircut hippie!
I play as a male Redguard with a military style haircut so I haven't noticed. Do the NPC's suffer from the same problem?

It does effect NPCs. Also when I play my secondary female character, she would not look good bald.

As for my current character I was going for the epic-beard long-haired Viking look.

From all I can see Skyrim doesn't make use of egm files anymore (due to the far more restricted face gen not much of a problem, but apparently it can be a problem in rare cases) so helmets are one-size-fits-all. Since Skyrim also doesn't completely remove the hair (and ears) when equipping a helmet like Oblivion it is hard to avoid clipping in some cases. Either you have a large amount of haircuts and custom faces or you have no clipping. Or you do it like in Oblivion and remove the hair and ears, which looks odd. But you can't have everything at once.
