Soul Calibur 3 and 4 has amazing hair physics, and the original and only good Fable does. I think it would be very cool to have really long black hair and a beard that actually MOVES

I don't care if it moves. Just as long as it doesn't clip inside the body and looks decent on the outside. Sims can do it although they svck at curly hair. Sims Medieval had okay curly hair.

God I really hope they do something about hair/cloth physics. From what I see in the trailer, it looks like they did nothing about hair physics (does anyone agree that it looks like Dovahkiin's hair is plastered to his head in the trailer?) which is really disappointing to me. I'm not sure about cloth physics, though. Well. Skyrim still looks like it's going to be my favorite game ever, despite this rather insignificant detail, so!

Vsions said hair is really hard to do with everything else they are doing. He did say hair has been improved upon quite a bit though.

hes probably right but i would rather say that hair physics is just too much for most computers and for consoles. especially if there is the rest of the game running too

He's not probably right. He's the guy who is making the humanoid characters. Apparently we can expect to see dreadlocks this time

yes but OP was talking about hair physics i was saying that because that was not 100% the point of the OP to have better looking haircuts it was to have hair PHYSICS visions is far from being the one who works on physics computation therefore i added this part.

Again, Soul Calibur are fighting games, they have time to work on such things as jiggle physics because the worlds are very small and don't use a lot of characters. Not sure about Fable, I don't own a 360, but isn't the original smaller then Oblivion?

I want beard.

Co sign.
As long as my character can have a good full beard I will be happy. I got tired of running around with my baby faced Nord barbarian.

as ive stated before, hair takes up a alot of resources and is not easy to do. A good example of this is witcher 2, most of their npcs are wearing some sort of head gear and have no hair at all. Geralts hair is done using the same techniqes as most other games, that is why it has hard edges. It simply takes alot of resources. Game is awesome though :) wish I could play it more often

You, sir/madam, are very peculiar. You are a developer who communicates directly with us fans. You have earned my respect.

Well, here's the thing: we are probably not getting hair physics.

HOWEVER -- if Bethesda wanted to, it'd take maybe a day for an experienced modeler/animator to add hair bones and have the bones animated along with characters spinal cord. Hell, even I know how to weight animation bones in Blender. It'd be fast, simple, and Skyrim would be able to have long hairstyles without massive clipping issues.

Please, Bethesda? I want a long ponytail. :(

EDIT: Oh snap, just realized vsions posted. Now I feel bad for asking for things, especially as some of my comment above might be seen as belittling the work you do . . . I'll leave it for posterity though. You've done an excellent job from what I've seen thus far; thank you for communicating so much on the forums!

DOUBLE EDIT: VV Dang, I was too slow. I totally feel like a jerk now. Things are probably different between Skyrim and just modding Oblivion.

Out of curiousity, is the actual development of good hair difficult, is it overly resource-intensive, or is it a combination of both?

I always wanted a long ponytail on my characters, but I couldn't stand the way they've always been rigid. It'd be nice to see one that actually moved, even if it was just weighted to my skeleton (provided it wasn't horrible looking, of course).

Frankly, I'm thankful to see that your helmet does not completely replace your hair. How does that work, exactly, if I may ask? Do you just layer the helmet on top of the hair or do you have a separate "hat hair" model for use underneath it? Please don't tell me that it works like Fallout 3, where your guy's hair would transform into the default Clean Cut style when you put on a hat.

Damn your obfuscation! Relinquish your secrets, says I!

Sigh. I understand your NDA and whatnot, having worked 9 grueling months as a video game tester, but I really wish your employers would be a little more loose with miscellaneous info. I get more skeptical every time I hear Mr. Howard assure us that this thing we want to know about is totally cool and awesome but he can't show it to us yet. Obviously dragons and most of the spells and equipment and every last damn quest in the game should be kept under wraps to build up hype and surprise us, but for god's sake, surely releasing a list of skills couldn't harm the hype that much.

Still, thanks for taking time out of your day to cast scraps at the rabid mob that gathers on these boards.

Its just that they have to keep a bunch of stuff for E3 and for pre-launch lol
