Hair issues with forced SM3.0

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:32 pm

So my Oblivion.ini file by default shows these settings

bHighQuality20Lighting=0
bAllow20HairShader=1
bAllow30Shaders=0

Here is what this particular hair style looks with those settings... http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/2/2/27/far327/f_1bh9u4m7q60m_824dea6.jpg

And then, if I try to force SM 3.0 by changing shaderpackage013.sdp to shaderpackage019.sdp that hair style looks like this...
http://img40.imagefra.me/img/img40/2/2/27/far327/f_jmuco59mim_d1ff693.jpg

I don't even have to change bAllow30Shaders=0 to a 1, the glitch happens either way.

Any thoughts on why this one particular hairstyle has issues with SM 3.0?
The hairstyle is from XEO5 but I think it was originally from this mod - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9650.

Thanks

lol, change shaderpackage019.sdp to shaderpackage013.sdp please, and check bAllow30Shaders=0 to a 1. this is the correct workaround, lets see if it helps.

Be careful not to use to your shaderpackage019.sdp, which should then be the original shaderpackage013.sdp, if you changed them like you described.

Ooops. No I had it right, I just described it backwards. I was actually doing it the way you described Marshmallow. Everything else is fine, it's just this one hair mesh or texture. My guess is that it is missing some important vertex information, but I don't know enough about that stuff to ensure it gets added correctly.

i will bet its the mesh.

I had a look at it. It has some junk in there, and in all honestly I'm surprised it actually attaches itself to the character at all. Its not rigged. and there is no prn attachment node. I believe it's using a little know flag in the root node set to skin instance. I've always wondered about that.. wierd. amongst several other issues I see....

anyway, try openning the nif. and changing the nivertexcolorproperty flag to 40 or 41. and/or in the block details of the nisourcetexture, set direct render to yes. that may sort the glare out... but it could be due to the fact you can't, for some reason beyond me, add a tangent space node. In which case doing an import/export will probably be the best option to fixeroo

Its one messed up nif, never quite seen somthing like that.

Thanks for the detailed instructions Ghogiel. I'll give this a try and if all else fails, I will choose a different hairstyle for the NPC's that use this jacked up one.
