I feel like having really long hair would make the jumping/falling animations even harder to design to look realistic.

I don't think longer hair shouldn't be in or anything, but my characters usually have short hair, so i don't mind at all if it's not.

I for one could see very long hair going berserk when the proper physics gets applied to it and something gets caught on something else, think of the door-body glitch from oblivion.

Fun times.

if they had long hair with the proper physics, then yes, it would be amazing. However, with long hair that's just glued to your back, and doesn't move when you run or jump, there's just no point to it, may as well be wearing a cloak or something. While there are mods that add long hair to oblivion, I never used them for precisely this reason, short hair is the only type that looks realistic without major physics.

I doubt that will be a problem as I don't get the impression that Skyrim has hair physics, which doesn't really make very long hair more doable, in fact, I'd imagine that the lack of hair physics in Oblivion was the main reason that hair longer than shoulder length wasn't possible, because since the hair would just be completely rigid, it would very easily cause clipping issues. Though admitably, this could probably be adressed even if the hair didn't have proper physics, but was just physiqued to move with your character's body, still not ideal as it would make it seem like the hair was glued to your body, but it would be better than it going straight through your character's chest under certain situations.

yeah lets hope there's good physics for hair this time. Would be cool, and seems appropriate for the nords to have longer hair than general.

I would like hair animation like in The Witcher. if that can be done, then any kind of hair length will do.

Meh, I don't see why not. That way Fabio could play it and feel more immersed

Doubtful.

As for hair length, I want me Breton to have a braid down the length of her back. And I want it to move as I move. Not stiff like it was made out of wires. I never have been able to use the long haired mods for that reason.

I wouldn't put money on it. This isn't Fable. I mean, TES would benefit from adopting Fable's methods of in-game character customization and dynamic nature but as of yet I don't think they are heading in that direction

Well there is always options if there is no physicked hairs and clothes, they can be animated when rigged to special bones.

...and it did, which is why I've always skipped the various long hairstyles in the hair mods I've tried. Having your hair sticking through your shoulders or out of your chest (when crouched) looked really silly.

If hair can draqe and animate in Skyrim, long styles might work. Otherwise.......

God, I'd hope not. If I go through the trouble to design my character's look just the way I want it (including hairstyle), I'd hope that it wouldn't mutate on me. :(

They made a big thing of Havok behaviour, so would surely have mentioned Havok cloth if it was in. So assume that cloth and hair are still fairly static, doesn't bode well for the length.
As for getting your hair cut, why? I don't have headlice. ( Though it would be cool if they were in-game, serve you right for being a cheapskate, and sleeping in the Fighters' Guild, instead of paying for an inn. )
