Um, hair options please?

Post » Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:36 pm

What do you guys think? One of the things that annoy me about WRPGs are the limited hair options. Most NPCs have the same exact hair due to limited options and the main character doesn't have enough options. I think Bethesda was on the right track with the huge amount of facial hair in Fallout 3. But now, how about a variety of hair options, even more types of the same hair. I want different types of long hair, not just windbraids, for my male character. Different types of short hair styles, different types of dreadlocks, etc. I do graphic design, so trust me, I don't think making more hair slow down any development time.

In the art video on Game Informer's site, the art director said that there is going to be incredible amounts of customization. One would think that will extend to hair designs.

So long as the Skullet option is in, I'm good.

Well we have full beards this time, and they have promised greater character creation depth. So lets hope that includes hair. I don't see why it wouldn't.

I hope so too. Also, is thinking that the hair will move a bit more going too far? I have no knowledge/experience in this kind of thing, so I'm aware that what I think of as quite simple (e.g. seeing hair move in the breeze) may not be in terms of implementation.
It would be great if you could have really long, flowing hair. :)

I thought the hair you saw on the archer character in the GI issue looked terrible. Although the hair looked fine on the shop keeper lady.

I think we should be able to get someone to help us with our hair to redo it and let our hair grow too!. That way we need hair cuts if we dont want it to look good all we have to do is grab our hair in our hand and saw off a big pony tail with a dagger. Facial hair just scratch of with a dagger and maby lard or water if it is short? I don't know but it would be cool. I do not want to be roming the tundra for weeks and not have a big beard that I need to cut.

I don't think the hair needs to necessarily be flowing/moving, but more options and hair that doesn't look like twisted together playdough is fine enough with me.

In games, hair always looks sculpted out of wax, when in reality hair is almost never perfectly smooth and shiny. The hair on the archer in the GI photo looked miserable compared to my outlandish expectations, so I am hoping for drastic improvement before the game is released. As for the "hair swaying in the wind" idea, that is fantastic. I hope the devs can handle it, because that would be a great touch.

What else aside from WRPG's actually has hair options?

That being said, more hair is never a bad thing. Just as long as it's good. It doesn't matter how many hairstyles you have if there are only a few that look nice.

I'm sure you'll also be able to change your hair in-game which will be cool :celebrate:

I can't see Beth not putting way more hair options in

I'm gonna go ahead and say facial and long hair would kinda make sense to have for the cold and whatnot right?

Very impressive, but we probably won't see that kind of stuff until the next generation of consoles.

What really drove me crazy was that argonians literally had 2 styles. I still want to know what they were thinking when they did that: "these spiky things are different from those other ones right? should we really make some more... nah, I sure tes fans don't care about variety in character creation"

glad to hear they are making a serious effort this time... instead of a brief mentioning in shivering isles about the possibility why no one has beards, except sheogorad.

As long as there are a large variety of 'normal' options; just some average looks that aren't too modern but wouldn't be out of place in the street.

Also some medieval fantasy 'celebrity' looks so I can create my Bravehart, Merlin, Aragorn, Boromir, Septimus Characters.

We all want more hair options, but there's really no such thing as "enough" of them. Honestly, even if Bethesda included 50 of them out of the box, there would always be something lacking for someone.

And 10:1 everyone on PC will just use Ren's hairs again anyway. I swear, those are getting even more generic than the vanilla styles in any game ever were. :P
