Hair.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:37 am

Just thought I'd announce. The Hair needs work. Hair was terrible through Oblivion and Fallout (though, granted, females were significantly better), and it seems to not be doing much better here. It just doesn't seem realistic. I'm not asking for each strand of hair to be given physics on every NPC, but I think we really need to work on it.

When Morrowind is the best for hairstyles (imo, anyway), you know something is wrong...

Hopefully this is just an issue created by the fact that it's nowhere near completion. The Orc and Khajiit hairs look fine, though they have very different hairs to the other races. Bethesda seems to have an issue with full heads of hair on a standard head.

Has anyone else noticed this? It was one of my many turn offs from Oblivion, as the replacers had the whole "Anime" feel that I don't like.

You have seen the other screenshot with the woman in the tavern right? You can't have missed it.

Yet again another Graphics Thread.

This is what's going to happen; You'll have 1 side claiming that the hair is fine, console graphics can't get any better, it's in the alpha phase, it's a video game, not real life, it looks great in my opinion, etc.

Then, you'll have the other side where the graphics don't look like Crysis, Bethesda is lazy, console kiddies are bringing down the PC elitists, other games have better hair, there's no excuse for this, the textures svck, etc.

My input; The hair looks fine. Even if you don't like it, you'll still buy the game. All of the other criticizers will buy the game, even if you think this "discussion" is helpful, the hair you see now will pretty much be the hair we see later with little to no changes.

Oh and you do know that all the screenshots taken are done on the 360 right? That's medium graphics settings on the PC. Cheer up ;)

Medium seems a little low there. They are making all the platforms look the same. But I'm not gonna argue over that. I actually agree with you about the hair thing. It probably won't change and if it does then the change will be minute at the very least. And yes, they will still buy it. As will I. On release day baby!

The Ob hair shader. It's just not very nice. I thought fallout made progress, seen better.

Fallout 3 took hair in the wrong direction. It seemed like there were less texture maps and lower poly counts on meshes.

http://www.elderscrolls.com/oblivion/media/screenshots/screenshot-75-0/ When I saw it in 2004, the first thing that caught my eye was the hair. Look how smooth it looks.

I don't think the same hairstyle turned out as nice in the final build.

Longer time won't make things work easier.

Also that woman's hair looks like a hat mainly because that IS a hat she's wearing...

Are you talking about the blonde one or the one sweeping the floor? The blonde hair looks good and the one sweeping the floor doesn't wear a hat. She's got a bumtail :)

I just hope BGS recognizes that not all races have straight anime-esque hair textures.

Vsions says he is putting a lot of effort into them so I trust his word

I'll ask again but people will still do it, don't say something was bad in the past when in reality, it was great for it's time. Yeah, the hair in Oblivion looks like *bleep* compared to Square Enix's hair (every games hair looks like *bleep* in comparison) and to some other games that have come out in the last few years but you can't compare it to now, it doesn't work like that. Also, I've seen the hair in Skyrim and it looks great. If you plug your PC into your TV and then look at the screens, the little flaws you find when you are staring at them disappear. The reason for that? Because they are 360 screens and they are meant to be seen on the TV. The PC version is supposed to look good on the PC, not the console version and there is no premise to think so.

So in short, don't worry about hair, it will be great.

To me the Viking "logo character" seems to have not washed his hair in months so it seems oily. Could be my fan boyism kicking in though >.>
