No Half Life At E3

Well there's going to be a HL3 or Episode 3 someday, maybe Valve has something up their sleeves and are keeping it super hush-hush :ninja: . either way when it comes out I'm buying it :D .

All of those are other peoples games/ideas originating independently from Valve HQ. Sure they're high quality, but I want to see a VALVE original/own series. Not just find a super high quality mod and turn it into a full game (nothing wrong with this).

Why is that so important to you? All finished games have to come from somewhere. Sometimes they come from very barebones prototype games where they test the concept, or sometimes they come from mods like Valve does. Would you have liked those games more if you didn't know their origins?

What he is getting at is for the most part, the idea of the game was already there. They didn't have to really trudge through the process of creating a new ip idea, because it essentially already existed. Effectively cutting months from the design process. He isn't saying this makes the games any less good, just that they aren't entirely original, and weren't a hassle to come up with like an original game can be.

The people behind Portal and Left for Dead are part of Valve.

I just hope HL is not going the way of Duke Nukem Forever!

Speaking of which- I can hardly contain my Duke Nukem excitement.

Yet another game that ruled my childhood.

Just really want to hear that first "Let's rock."

or...

COME AND GET IT, BABY!

or..

Hail to the King, baby.

or...

...you get my drift.

No I said there was nothing wrong with that, but in all cases they have originated outside of Valve's offices. Then were later brought into the fold. I like those games, but want to see VALVE's work. I can respect the other guys, they make awesome games. I just want to see a Valve original. Is that heresy?

This is incredibly lame. I've been looking forward to Episode Three for like, three years. Come on, Valve.

I wonder which will come out first. The Black Mesa mod or HL3.

Black Mesa we can see it's far along in development. Not so with Episode 3 which is nowhere in sight except two pieces of concept art many years ago.

This. Thanks Gamgee.

Like I said; I lost interest in Valve after the first HL2 DLC/episode/whateveritscalled.

I'm still a svcker for Half-Life. Not only was the first one an amazing step up in FPS storytelling when it was released (and therefore I have really fond memories of its release), but I still enjoy the clean lines, polish, and succinct simplicity of Valve's (both graphical and narrative) design style. I'm sure that a lot of the members here weren't PC gamers in 1998, and so don't share in my nostalgia. :) I'm still looking forward to HL2 Episode 3. No, there isn't going to be a Half-Life 3 anytime soon. We're still waiting on Episode 3 of HL2. ;)

That said, as has been mentioned, E3 is such a huge media feeding frenzy nowadays it almost doesn't make sense for a company like Valve to bother with it. They just came off of a huge, multi-faceted marketing campaign for Portal 2. They don't really need that kind of watered-down exposure right now, IMO.

I remember playing the Team Fortress Classic mod in my dorm room (1999).... and cursing the release of that stupid counter-strike mod the next year because the TFC servers were empty....

STUPID COUNTERSTRIKE THAT LEAD TO THAT CRAPPY CALL OF DUTY!
