"Valve --best known for developing the critically acclaimed Half-Life series --revealed via a press release that Half-Life will not make an appearance at E3 2011. In fact, no Valve games will be there. According to Doug Lombardi, Valve's VP of Marketing, media outlets needn't make any E3 appointments because "[Valve is] not showing any titles at this year's show. So no appointment is needed."

This is getting old.

they don't have anything to show. Portal 2 is out and DOTA 2 still seems fairly in development. there's nothing else.

were people seriously expecting them to just go HEY BTW EPISODE 3? i don't get the disappointment, or really the hype surrounding the game at all.

They should at least be there to support Portal 2 at the very least.

I think at this point they're best known for NOT developing the critically acclaimed Half-Life series.

with what? demo videos of map packs?

also yeah they're just as acclaimed for developing Left 4 Dead and Portal, not to mention Steam. i don't understand why people are so hung up on Half-Life - it's been done since in increasingly more interesting ways.

It's going on almost 7 years. What's going on?

The people at Valve hold votes on what they want to focus work on, so that probably has something to do with it.

I've been an avid Half-Life fan since around 2001; it's be nice to get some closure on the series at least.

When they say not to bother booking appointments I think it's safe to say they won't be there.

Meh. I don't really care. Just waiting on HL3 to be announced with an updated source engine. They really need a ValveCon.

Yes, I would probably be more shocked if the list of companies that are going to showcase something on E3 had not been released on the E3 site a couple of weeks ago. valve was not on that list.

With the prices a company has to pay to be at these events especially something as big as E3, I can see why they don't want to go. Save about $10 000 and not bother. You have to pay for space, then pay to get the stuff there, then pay for someone to be there and talk about it, pay for thier hotel meals etc etc. Maybe even more than $10 000. I hate to see how much it will cost Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. I believe Nintendo has a huge floor space so it much cost them alot of money. I am shure it will cost them close to a $100 000 if not more.

Fully understandable whey they will not show up.

It does feel like they've rather abandoned the franchise; I think I started to worry when they commented that we should consider the HL2 episodes to be HL3, not least because they were IMHO somewhat underwhelming. Maybe they'll surprise us all and release a proper HL3 eventually, but I'm not feeling optimistic.

Beh...Valve continues to dissapoint. If they take too long people will simply lose interest in the Half Life series altogether.

Apparantely not really considering they have absolutely nothing of anything to show, or talk about at E3. I honestly don't know many other devs besides them that aren't attending.

I'd say add a zero to the end of both numbers and you'd be a lot closer.

Valve went hipster.

Gabben: UGH, making games and showing our progress? Pfft I'm more into a little thing called proslackination. It's my professional job to do nothing. *flips hair back or something* You other developers can keep making games, and you'll get all the attention you want.
