Sheesh. This is amazing. This guy's quite the artist. The animations really supplement the kinetic and frantic atmosphere of the first game. Definitely worth a watch by all of you who haven't already. Now I need to replay Half-Life. For the nineteenth time. I've been a longtime fan of everything made by Valve, but through everything the original Half-Life has always had a soft spot in my heart. The controls, the movement, they just handle so smoothly and the weapons feel so much more "responsive" if you will than the later games. It's nice to see that people haven't forgotten it, and this is quite a nice tribute to the game.

In fear of having this thread locked out for basically being a URL advertisemant, let's talk about Half-Life! Anybody still play any of the old mods (Sven Co-op, Team Fortress Classic) regularly?

The original Half-Life is still one of my all-time favourite FPSes. It's just an incredible game. I play through it, Opposing Force and Blueshift at least once a year.

I've been playing They Hunger lately. It's actually a great, enjoyable (not so) little mod. Just started Episode 2 of 3.

Also, that trailer is pretty awesome, particularly the combat animations. The bit with the glasses was a nice touch. ;)

This. I actually like it a lot more HL2, which I thought was a step down. I liked the more isolated and survival feel of the first game, whereas the second game feels like a glorified Freedom Fighters at times (especially near the end and almost all of Episode 2). Still one of the best.

Edit: That's not to say the second game didn't have its moments. I liked the sewer level, Ravenholm was...okay, though I hated the amount of Gravity Gun-specific situations that were in that part, and Episode 1 was pretty awesome.

What I didn't like about Half-Life 2 is it tried to focus too much on emotion and character development - which is kind of difficult when you're a silent protagonist. "Hey Gordon, you have to go with Alyx now because we told you to!" Other times, the game just seemed to try too hard with the musical cues and dead bodies to force the atmosphere. Some of these instances were genuinely compelling to me, like when you're escaping City 17 and see the citizen struggling to get a headcrab off of his head. Other times...meh. I liked how Half-Life 1 tried to motivate and appeal to you through raw adrenaline and survival instincts. It's much more powerful, IMO. To this day I still start shaking whenever a Gargantua is following me close behind. :ahhh:

Pretty cool trailer.
I've still not quite gotten around to playing the first game. I think I'll order it right now.
