Half of Skyrim has Amnesia?

Post » Sat Jan 11, 2014 10:38 pm

Adrianna: Got some good pieces out here if you're looking to buy.

Nils: Name's Nils, I'm the cook up at Candlehearth Hall.

Belethor: Eeeeverything's for sale my friend!

Elda: Got some fresh baked bread and good cheese if you're after a bite to eat.

Kleppr: .. This is the Silver-Blood Inn.....

Just to name a few, it seems that almost every NPC in Skyrim repeats their introductory dialogue every bloody time you walk past them. This has to be a glitch right? How did this get left in the game? And more importantly why hasn't it been fixed?

I learn to hate even my favourite NPC's because of this. There's so much dialogue in this game and it gets used over and over again, to the point where Skyrim's NPC's appear to have Amnesia.

Does this bother anyone else?

I think it'd be interesting if (some) of the NPCs commented on what you wear (some guards already do), and or what you bought . . . "I see you bought (insert sword, axe, shield, helmet, etc), hope you like (my?) work!"

I hate Belethor but he's one of the best merchants available. :(

Not a glitch, it's the way the game is, hence why you sometimes see people wanting the generic dialog back from Oblivion. Where a NPC will great you with a "Hello!" or something else depending on your deposition with them ("Oh....it's you.") when you walk past them. Then you hear the same conversation over and over again... "You know nothing of our struggles!" While again, Oblivion the NPCs has a decent size of topics to talk to with each other.

Get's boring hearing the same thing over and over again, eh?

No. Honestly I am used to it.

Not to welcome to Coneria from Final Fantasy 1 levels but yeah, most of my old games has that problem, only worse.

Baldurs Gate, Neverwninter Nights, Jade Empire, Fallout 1 and 2, Morrowind to name a few.

When it comes to dialogue and voice acting in gaming often there is the choice between quality and quantity, it is rare to have both. In most cases Skyrim has neither but even so Skyrim went with a focus on quality, say what you want about Sigurd and him promoting Belethors store, but it cannot be denied that his extremely limited dialogue is completely unique and no other NPC says the same thing.

*sigh* Tmes are tough. There are many guards in the castle!

Points for anyone who knows the references.

I tolerate this better than Oblivion's generic banter, where every NPC in the game, from dirty bandits hiding in caves to aristocrats living in castles speak exactly the same lines about syndicates of wizards over and over and over and over everywhere you go.

Neither approach is perfect. Myself, I use a mod to limit greetings in Skyrim so it would be hypocritical if I were to defend the banter in this game. What I want is something better than both Oblivion and Skyrim. I want a more sophisticated system of NPC banter, one that is more flexible and situational than what we have seen so far.

It's better than Oblivion's "everyonesaysthesamethings" but it's still annoing hearing people repeat themselves.
I don't mind "I work for Belethor at the general goods store" but it gets annoying if he's standing next to me repeating it every 30 seconds because he's waiting to use the wood chopping thingy.
