Halo Bleach

I don't mind consoles, some of the games you get for it etc, great for kids, girls, hairdressers and the odd advlt human male, but i don't like is the guerrilla marketing under the guise of 'news' by the BBC > http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11294336
Surely this is a breach of their commercial charter, M$ must bung these people wads of cash in small brown bags to some corporate pimp up the head-office at the beeb, technology news indeed, my AR*E is it.

Apple or M$ products and the BBC love it... it's horrible.

Crytek, i hear that playing crysis-2 gives you larger erections? now leak that into the news and next thing you know....

TECHNOLOGY-LATEST : "New CRYSIS-2 GAME gives bad boys the bone?" your company name and the game itself is then plastered all over the 'news' and bingo... sales a plenty, ahhh...anyways i jest... controversy sells games as you know, the 'media' and the news is one way to highlight a product, but all of this what i see today in the so called 'news' makes me anti-halo, anti M$ and anti console fanboy, they haven't got a f*cking clue have they...

/rant over :@)

I also love it when they get the names wrong, for instance they have written 'Call of Duty 2: Modern Warfare' /Facepalm

@Toxic, Sorry if it seems like I am singling you out but trust me, I am not. Parts of this might not even pertain to you or this thread, for that I apologize. This is more of a rant in the general direction of forum Debbie Downer's. People that complain about everything based on assumptions without facts.

Since I am relatively sure this thread will be flagged and removed for vulgarity, I will take this time to Rant as well. This thought has been running through my head since about the time I became a PC gamer. It is really tough to explain my concept so I will explain it though the use a couple examples. As an avid console player, my immersion into PC gaming was a rocky experience. A class of person exists in the PC world and you Toxic, are a perfect example of this type of person. There is this thought in the community, and at it's core, consist a hatred for all things mainstream.

There is a notion that interest in anything that other people happen to like makes you a "fanboy.". It's the same crowd that complains about 3-D technology. They act like it's cool to not like 3-D, since 2-D is obviously preferable to 3-D.... "If you like 3-D, you're a slave to marketing" Maybe 3-D just looks more realistic than 2-D, have you thought of that? I saw the Cryengine in 3-D at GDC and it looked amazing. Maybe you just don't want to have some black glasses cramp your style since we know how most PC gamers usually only get to play during time off from their modeling gigs in the Bahamas.

Then we have the anti-console part of this mentality. This is where the narcissism becomes extreme. Guys who have locked themselves away, lash out at anyone who doesn't live in their secluded fantasy world. I guess I could understand this considering how lonely it must get without ever knowing the warm touch of a woman (or guy, whatever, I don't judge). Honestly though, you might get chubbies from various PC games, it is not a healthy substitute.

Let's get serious, Halo is another one of those games that's like a Siren's call to trolls. The idea of a mass of people with similar interest all enjoying the same thing must bring back the rejection felt in high school. Being on the edge of school society has instilled a outsider mentality. Any group you identify as "insiders" or "cool kids" brings these emotions back to the surface where they create subconscious anger and resentment. As a defense, embracing the unpopular has become a mantra used to take ownership of your banishment.

Do you honestly believe that a video game’s release where thousands, maybe millions of people around the world are standing out in the cold to get a copy is not worthy of a 2 page mention in the news? Microsoft didn’t pay for this, people like you who were drawn to the article and saw the advertisemant did. This might be one of the most anticipated video game releases in history so it doesn’t take a astrophysicist to calculate the effect of a worldwide release party.Half of my gamer friends and a couple family members lined up last night and my story is not uncommon. This game has reached every corner, so to say there is no story there is naive.

I know you’re injecting some comedy into your sentiments but the concept reeks of PC gamer imperialism. Personally, I have pre-ordered Reach and I am looking forward to it, but I’ve also pre-ordered Crysis 2 and Final Fantasy XIV. I enjoy games that are well made and fun regardless of mainstream or not. If you could just get comfortable in your own skin, you might see the draw of a game like Halo or MW. Also most great PC games are mainstream like Half Life, Quake, Duke Nukem, Unreal and Crysis, not to mention that they are all made possible by an operating system developed by the same Microsoft you hate. Bill Gates was Poon’n n00bs on Pong before you were just a tickle in your Dad’s whitey tighties.

Toxic, I'm sure your a nice guy and I was just "jesting" but I have so many PC loving friends that would echo your sentiments. I'm still trying to figure out where it all comes from. I hear this all the time: "Bowing to the Console players" and it makes me mental, because it drips with insecurities. Like your outsider PC kingdom is crumbling around you. Intelligence is defined by your ability to adapt and I expected more out of a community known for pioneering ideas. Sorry if I rambled and I hope this isn't taken too seriously, just saying whats on my mind. Thanks.

Your sense of humor had me turning heads I was laughing so hard, I almost peed on myself. You can’t really blame the kid, he grew up in a generation that was taught to follow Anakin’s Story. Vader is like Mr. Emo Misunderstood himself. Nature vs Nurture, no matter how you slice it, this looks like a classic case of product of the mainstream media.

@Enfadel - By the way you owe me another Grande Starbucks Latte Frappucinno because in the fit of laughter I spilt it everywhere. I guess I could just sulk instead...

It's gotta be people like you that elevate this console-fanboy BS all out of proportion, so here, take my opinions and comments and if you want you can stuck them up your arse for nothing and f*ck off while your doing :) ok, it's not interesting...

I like games, i like to enjoy them as much as the next person, doesn't really matter to me what device is spewing it out, but i do know you need extra tricks to sell a game in this day and age.

Consoles killed video-arcades-games which is an environment i was involved with as child and as an advlt to both personally and professionally, I'm sure you give thanks to all those in the industry with silent cash and your turgid rants on forums in obedient protection of your favored gaming device, but i have no qualms about whoring about with the consoles, the games are good, same fun is had by all...

So, Halo... when you buy the game please make it back to us safely, we wouldn't want you getting crushed to death would we...

...and thats all the news! Here's Tom with the weather...

I read the news article, and lol at the mistake made. "Call of Duty 2: Modern Warfare". :P

Also, you must remind yourself that the BBC may have a dedicated section for technology, but not for games in particular. So whatever game is big at the moment, they'll talk about it.

Unless they were gamers, you'd hear about more games than anything else. In this case, that specifc/dedicated part of the BBC only talks about the technology.

So expect them to make a few mistakes and talk about popular games in peoples minds right now. :)

When I used to play Street Fighter II, people would line up to get their "arse" handed to them and it seemed like every other player would look like a wilderness survivalist after 6 months in the bush. I would have to stretch my arms out to play since I held my body out as far as I could, it's like these guys were using biochemical weapons to sabotage my Hadoo-Kens. People might think I was stretching or doing a victory lap in between rounds, but I was just walking away far enough to get a breath of air, no joke.
So, Halo... when you buy the game(,*) please make it back to us safely, we wouldn't want you getting crushed to death would we...(.*)
I appreciate your concern and you will happy to know, I've planned for this scenario by having the the game shipped right to my house.

Perhaps i was being overly suspicious there, but the 'news-media' sold it's soul long ago dude and sites.forums like 4chan for example highlight this by 'hijacking' the mainstream media, if you think these kids can do it, then marketing professionals would do it a New-York minute :) Rick_Roll-videos was a classic, spread as an internet-meme quickly by the great un-washed, after being established throughout the internet and (being mentioned on the news) up pops.... Rick Astley's concert tour of America... spooky coincidence? of course Ricks management just took advantage of the situation serendipitously or was it something more....

Coming up next in this hour, Justin Bieber, soulless ball-less mediocre dross merchant Bieber asks "You decide my world tour venues?" Twitter poll leans towards IRAN...

more banol opinion control propaganda after these words from our sponsors...

:) sorry dude just having a laugh, yeah get it delivered mate, I'm actually going into town to get my copy of CRYSIS-2, next year when all the prices in the UK go up with a VAT hike... thanks for that UK, thanks very f*cking much :)

I can't wait for the moment Justin Beaver actually hits puberty. He looks and sings like a 12 year old. I doubt he even writes his own music, he is probably just a figurine from his music studio that sings the sh*t they give him. He should go on a music tour in Afghanistan and see how long he can last singing that crap over their.

Rick Astley...meh. Not a fan.

@Shinanigans Looks like you killed the thread with that comment. :P

Honestly I haven't posted anything because I've been stuck on Reach. The Forge 2.0 (map maker) is amazing, I love it though a lot of my friends have some serious problems with the user interface (which I will leave for another thread). About half of my mapping friends have fallen out because of the editors limitations. The first wave of really good maps is starting to emerge, As limited as Forge is, those people who pressed on are getting really creative. Since you can not adjust terrain, people are creating huge closed in maps that don't even touch the terrain. Just talking about it is getting me amped to map more. I'm putting the final touches on my new map "Crytek R&D HQ" Somehow this picture leaked, don't tell anyone. ;)

Forge is pretty sixy. My kind of editor.
My only real problem is the lack of "active" physical objects.
I've only remade my fav' splitscreen map and a puzzle - so no "real" projects yet but it is a great editor imo.

If Crysis2 has anything even just slightly better than that then i'm sold.
*Wink wink*

Wasn't it called "facility 0" or somthing like that before?
Cruising a bit from the original topic I think :S

Cevat Yerli himself said the ego shooters on console trail behind the ones on pc for about 3-4 years.
He also said that the console hardware is way to weak to run crysis.

Money could effect such a sudden change of heart ;-)

Neo... Hmm... I don't think i've ever seen you win...
*Cough*
Never lie to a witness.

Ego shooters are dominant - PC, Xbox, and PS3 alike.
The reason for this is that the majority of the players enjoy them.
Dispite the system that runs them.

Completely unreleated to very recent posts:
@bigboulder, along with some others (if you don't mind, i'd like to use you as a substitue for "the others" - sorry, i'm not trying to single you out - but if I just started to say the following after your recent posts; you'd think I was talking about you specificly anyway, and i'm not.

Almost every post I see from you has somthing negative directed towards consoles.
I realise you might not be happy to have what is appearently your favourite game "dumbed down" for consoles; but mate, it's just a game overall. There's no need to bash consoles at every turn.

If you love Crysis, then play Crysis.
If you hate Crysis2 because it's not the same quality in your opinion, then don't buy it. True, consoles arn't half as good as a high-end PC, and a lot of high-end games are moving "down" to consoles for the market, but that's just the way it's going.
It's somthing that you just need to deal with.
Sorry mate, but either start your own company or go with it.

I hate Eagle Boys pizza - it's redciulously overpriced;
but I don't ring them up to tell them they svck.

I'm refering to the slightly more agressive posts I see around when I say this, and keep in mind I mean no disrespect, but -
Chill the **** out.

Again; i'm not trying to single you out - I just find it easier to speak to individuals.

Relax. This isn't an agressive post. Just sayin'. ; )

I hope the new consoles come out soon is all, i'm bored of the games coming out currently, i'm probably buying crysis 2, but that's because i'm hoping for a good single player experience, which is hopefully more likely by the apparent multiplayer shortcomings.

With regards to game stagnation and the general pc-console meh-ness that goes on because they can only have one from their parents (i have them all, naturally, apart from the wii of course), Whine about 'it's not teh graficks!' all you want, but in the end everyone bought a 360 and ps3 didn't they? why? the games were better than the ps2 and xbox in both gameplay and graphics. Now imagine that there are machine packing 10 times as much power as your console, imagine the quality of games you could have on them! Now imagine you own one (around 25-50 million people do - hd5750 and above) and the only games coming out are the same quality you got on the old consoles. Now you know why some pc gamers get annoyed with consoles :P

Still, a good game is a good game. Do i care that crysis 2 is out on console? no. Do i care that it half the game it should be? yes i am :) It may not be the game it should've been but it's still fun, and probably more so than crysis 1. On the bright side pc gamers will get to see it in it's 1080p 60fps glory though (consoles in 720p, 30fps, medium settings glory) but i would've liked some ground breaking new additions to the formula.

As for multiplayer, just play modern warfare 1, then you've pretty much played every modern fps game multiplayer. The first person genre is stagnating worse then a dead cat in a warm airing cupboard, nothing we can do about it until the 360 and ps3 die a death and their successors arrive.

As for halo reach, it was a big event, big events get reported. That's what news is, they didn't need to pay the BBC for them to comment on the midnight queuing ect.

I agree with your points.

Hopefully the next console generation comes out soon, but I don't see that happening until the economy picks up, or 2012, whichever comes first. :'(

PC innovation and especially gameplay, are often held back because the console counterparts are incompetent. There is nothing wrong with developing console, just don't make the better hardware suffer for it... >:O

This is on the new MOH game which went on sale recently, it's on the BBC website... quote

"Ploy

Johnny Minkley, a journalist with video gaming website Eurogamer, told BBC News that he thought EA's decision to allow users to play as the Taliban was a marketing ploy.

"I don't think EA was that naive," he said.
Medal of Honour Players fight as Special Forces operating in Afghanistan in 2002

"They knew that this would be controversial, but they needed to do everything to get attention, especially when they are going up against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - the biggest brand in the world."

As i have mentioned before, it's called guerrilla-marketing, cheers

Return to Crysis
