Halo: How Microsoft rips you off.

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 11:06 pm

Does anyone agree with me, that Halo 3, ODST, and Halo Reach in reality are really virtually the same games (with of course very slight modifications).

Yet, Microsoft manages to continue to put out these Halo games, selling them at 60 dollars a piece, and people buy them. In my point of view, it is reality that most people who play Halo play it online. Therefore, what is the point of spending money on game after game, when they are all the same?

Do you agree/disagree?

I'm not a CoD fan either.

The original Battlefield 2 from 2005 - FTW.

Nope, surely disagree. Halo: ODST was absolutely terrible.
Halo: Reach is amazing.
That = different. You can't even compare ODST to Reach, honestly. Have you even played Reach?
And you call Halo the moneygrabbers?
Ever heard of these games called Call of Duty?

You could say the same exact thing about Pokemon. (I love the Pokemon games).

First off, it was Bungie who put those games out. Any FUTURE Halo games, sure, will be Microsoft (as they own the rights to it, if I recall correctly, which is why they made 343 Industries to exclusively handle Halo).

So blame Bungie.

'cause its shiny

I agree that the repetition and downgrading of a story to include more online gameplay makes buying anything after Halo 3 repetitive.

After rereading your post, it's quite apparent that you actually don't know what you're talking about. Saying the Halo multiplayers are the same is just..well, misinformed. Couldn't be more wrong.
Almost every Halo game has had almost a complete overhaul as far as gameplay goes. Different weapons, weapons act differently, etc. No Halo multiplayer is the same. Halo: CE was completely different from Halo 2, Halo 3 was completely different from Halo 2, and Reach is completely different from 2 and 3. So, yeah.

You are aware that this sort of generalized statement could be pretty much said about something like 80% of video game franchises ever right?

You're just copying that line from some other post trying to debunk a thread.

And this.

Seems like you're trying a tad too hard to hate on Halo. I'm not the biggest fan of the series either but that doesn't stop me from seeing how each game is different from the other.

It's only a ripoff if you buy it

Or you know you could buy it used and none of your money will go to them

They don't mimic each other.

Yet, they are very similar. What is new? New guns? Maps? That's it!

Engine is the same, as most of the guns are. Some of the guns were changed, yes (such as the needler from Halo 2 to Halo 3).

I thought there was a decent change from Halo 2 to Halo 3. However, I see Halo 3, ODST, and Reach as virtually the same thing.

EDIT-

I actually did have Halo 3. I sold it to my best friend 2 weeks ago. Yet, I did not go out and buy ODST/Reach. I rented them, yes. Buying them wasn't worth it because it was the same thing.

Call of Duty is the same thing.

I don't know a single fan of the original series that agrees with this. MW is an abomination.

Ha, definitely.

Especially considering that each Halo's multiplayer was vastly different from the last, mainly due to small changes to the weapons. Just as the old Halo multiplayer was dominated by the pistol, Halo 2's was dominated by the Battle Rifle and was also much faster. Halo 3 started getting really convoluted with its multiplayer, which is why Reach busted all the crap off of it (like getting rid of Dual Wielding, which, in my opinion, was a really great decision. It just made the game frustrating, especially with the Plasma Pistol + Pistol headshot cheese).

Honestly, they couldn't be any MORE DIFFERENT.

Omg Bethesda is ripping us off, Dagger Fall, Arena, Morrowind, Oblivion are all pretty much the same game, they use the same races and classes and spells. All are RPG's holy crap.

Are you being sarcastic here?

@AmDavis.

That's stupid. They don't use the same engine. That's a [censored] comparison.

Halo 3 is similar to Reach as far as graphics goes, but it's vastly updated.
As far as gameplay mechanics goes, Reach is vastly upgraded (or, well, upgraded is a biased word. Lets use "different") from Halo 3. It's a completely different game as far as mechanics goes.
What more do you want?
Also, it's an advancement in the series. With the exception of maybe TES games, which take half decades to come out, most games are like this. You don't get a complete overhaul on every front every time a game comes out.
People love Halo, and people love Bungie. They have a very strong fan base who DO buy their games. It's not your job to tell everyone it's "stupid" to buy them.

Pretty sure Orzorn is being serious too.

I asked for people's opinions. Did I say it was stupid necessarily? I didn't want a new overhaul. However, it sounds to me a lot like different Oblivion mods. Buy this game, you get small weapons modifications.

Ok then, on your reach point. Take Reach out if you want. It still sticks with the others.

@RedDuke

Exactly, which is why I only have 1 Battlefield, and not 5 of them.
