Hammerfell Artwork

Post » Sun Aug 01, 2010 10:41 am

Sup y'all. As some of you might known, the mod Tamriel Rebuilt recently stopped work on its Hammerfell section. A damn shame, but they've put up some of their concept art and... well it's pretty spectacular, strongly reminiscent of the great art that went into making Morrowind and which you can see at the Imperial Library. Anyway, I'm not associated at all with the mod (just an admirer) but I thought I'd do my part not to let this incredible effort be forgotten. Here's the link: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=download, look under miscellaneous. If anything deserves to be "monkeytruth", this is it.

Aye, there is some really cool stuff in there. The front page says the project is being split of from TR though.

Wow, the architectural sketches there are really something! I think the biggest flaw with Oblivion's concept art is how they cleaned it up, colored it, and even framed it before releasing it to the public. I love these crude pen sketches. Having been thinking of Arena as of late, I must say that the artwork of Rihad is an incredible re-envisioning of the town following its blocky predecessor.

Ah, and don't forget the http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/map_hf_names.jpg created to accomodate this project. zephyr, you are a God!

the new home of the hammerfell project is http://z10.invisionfree.com/Hammerfell/index.php?, and our official thread is http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1054531. i hope to incorporate most of TR's ideas and concepts into the finished product :)

There are some interesting concepts in there, too bad since it's all unofficial, when we actually get a game set in Hammerfell it could look very different, and maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but will also likely be less interesting.

Looking at maps like that is almost as much fun as playing the game..

I remember when I bought Morrowind, the very day I bought it I had to leave on a week long trip without my PC. I had only the map to tease me. Looking at it and just fantasizing about what each spot would be like was great fun.

Does that change, or somehow lower the artistry or work put into this project?

I strongly recommend downloading the art book, it is fantastic. A PDF document which is about 20MB in size but it is worth it - I want to print a copy off in colour and bind it.

To me, this art is lore. Not even a game set in Hammerfell would change that ;)
