[WIPz] Hammerfell

Post » Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:16 pm

we use new grass textures on oblivion's meshes, so i assume that in this case its our fault :P fixing it has been on my list for a while, i just assumed that glowing meant literally giving off light or something  i'll check out that mod to see how he did it, thanks for the tip.

a quick bump. we want to know what you want to see after the Southern Grasslands, head over to http://z10.invisionfree.com/Hammerfell/index.php?showtopic=60&st=0 to see the possibilities. You should be able to post there as a guest, or you can comment right here :)

I suggest Western Reach, or the Alik'r as second choice.

Western Reach - So the border between Cyrodiil and Hammerfell can be complete.

If someone's already started Elinhir, that's another push in that direction.

many (but not all) of the meshes will be released as limited use resources on an beta/final release. upon the upcoming release i will not be releasing any blanket permissions, but if someone really wants to use something i will consider it. I want hammerfell to look unique, and allowing everyone to use everything doesn't allow that and essentially makes all the trouble we've gone through to get these meshes meaningless.

in terms of progress, Goldmoor is now complete and merged into the heightmap. JD and I will continue to perfect the land and make fixes where needed, but most of the effort has moved north to the Helkori and Corten.

I'm also excited to present http://hammerfell.daryam.com/ :)

Yeah, I understand that you want it to look unique, and I would want too many meshes that is reasonable to ask for :P

Guess I will just have to learn how to use Blender. Seeing as my Elinhir has no houses at the moment, if you have any concept sketches of houses/would like to create some, I may try and see what I can come up with, and donate the meshes to you, as I don't feel Elinhir will look that good with just retextured vanilla models. I have a Solid edge and am quite decent at that, so I'm not a complete beginner. I wonder if there's a way to convert Solid Edge files to OB. Google time :D

So how's about it??

It can export to blender, so I'll create some quick models to see what you think :D

in all honestly, probably "no." whats the point of having two versions of elinhir and of hammerfell if they look the same? if you want to work with our meshes you should join our team, and if i want to work with your meshes i should join yours. I've had a plan and vision of Elinhir for some 5 years now, and its that plan and vision which I will execute when the time comes. trying to structure the development of the projects around each other will likely interfere with the progress of both, as the meshes would have to fit both projects and we would have to work around each other's schedules.

Solid Edge appears to be more of a CAD software, but as long as it can export into .obj (or another format blender accepts) you should be able to convert it into a .nif with a bit of additional effort.

I've not noticed any 'glowing grass' problems on my system, either in the CS or in-game, perhaps its just the screenies (or gods-forbid LN's system).

That looks totally great! You guys rock hard! :) :mohawk:

I wonder how much trouble it would be to integrate it into an FCOM running game

shouldn't be hard really, as hammerfell adds no new gameplay and only minimally edits original content. the most i can foresee is needing to tweak the ini for borders. i don't know much about how FCOM works though

in actual news, i've taken to re-learning modeling with max 2010 (used maya 6.5 before :sadvaultboy:) its going great so far. my first project, interiors for the LC set, is progressing very well, so i should be able to open a whole slew of new interiors soon.

Nice! I was hoping to find Hammerfell mod one day!
(can't use the new search function, don't know why doesn't work as it used to :brokencomputer: )

Is this one a new project altogether apart from broad's hammerfell mod?

BTW, Lady Nerevar, I had trouble getting to your links in the sig. They seem broken.

its wholly separate from broad's, and is actually the older of the two.

thats weird, somehow all my urls got converted to https. should be fixed now :)

counting the already released "hammerfell" (quotations due to it sharing nothing with the province but the name and general geographic area), as well as onra's heightmap and ali's elinhir based on it, thats at least 4 hammerfell projects :P our hammerfell should be compatible with the others, as it is in a separate worldspace. however, broad's, onra's, and the other one are mutually exclusive.

Apart broad's they don't recreate the province, like your mod, right?

Thanks again. I'll be trying your mod once it comes out. I would not mind test it for you, if you wish.

I'll be reading the new website meanwhile.

1) Onra's creates all of the land in the province, but makes no cities, NPCs, etc. it is also stretched out to allow more play area.
2)Ali's then adds Elinhir on top of Onra's.
3) Broad's, i don't know much about. He apparently wants to recreate all of Hammerfell, but he was also talking about doing Skyrim and Summurset isles, if i remember correctly.
4) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18715 is mostly player housing, and not lore friendly in any sense of the word.

3 almost certainly conflicts with 1 due to difference in scale. 2 and 3 conflict for the same reason, though i imagine an extensive patch could fix the issues. 4 conflicts with 1 and 3, but should again theoretically be compatible with 2 in the presence of an extensive patch.

our mod ought to be compatible with all of them, though it will probably need a patch for 3 and maybe 4, since we do add border forts to allow access to the new worldspace.

Those screenshots look incredible. Making custom meshes sounds like it would be quite difficult and time consuming, but looking at the results, it seems to have more than paid off.

Thanks for the positive comments :)

I've just sent out a new esm to my modders. Hopefully they won't find too many errors, and I can devote my time to making new content instead of fixing old errors
