Just another little update. The last few weeks I have been putting a lot of time into fixing and merging Goldmoor. The majority is merged successfully, and 8-6 is getting finishing touches. I am playtesting and homogenizing the region (making sure the borders between claims are not noticeable). I also started merging in interiors. I have also been making frequent improvements to our models and textures, and have recently gotten into Speedtree to improve our foliage as well.

We also decided to get a few more regions started while we are working on Goldmoor. I have put the Corten mountains up for claiming. They are a cliffy region between Goldmoor and the Helkori, totaling around 120 cells. They are being made with a mix of Goldmoor, Helkori, and vanilla objects, as well as a few custom ones. The Helkori region is also being generated. We are also working on fixing interiors already made at TR, and I have put up a few completely new ones as well.

In other words, everything is going well. Surprisingly well, actually :P

In other news, my brother recently got a kickbutt new computer; the thing runs oblivion at a steady 60 fps. I also upgraded my personal computer with internet and a new videocard, so it too can play oblivion well. I hope to run new LOD and get some amazing new screenshots and movies now that i have the hardware for it :)

oh, before i forget, i made us http://z10.invisionfree.com/Hammerfell. I'm still sifting through and updating information, but the basics are in place.

hopefully, yes. he is supposed to be making goldmoor upper class, the architecture you linked to would be used in either the islands, the alik'r, or both. everything depends on whether he is able to finish the models and get them to me, of course. i've not merged the final product, and given our track record with modelers i try not to announce anything before its certain :P

Does not touching Cyrodiil landscape (like you said a couple posts back) mean that it will be impossible to get to hammerfell by just going north from Kvatch or Anvil ?

its not in the same worldspace, no. i've talked at length on the reasons before, but it boils down to modder freedom, lore, and engine limitations. However, if you head north from kvatch or anvil you will eventually find yourself at one of our 3 border forts, which should adequately simulate a real border crossing experience :) It should also be possible to script some sort of teleport border as well, though thats not on the plan for now.

Glad to hear you are still working on this. :) I know how much work there is in generating an entirely new worldspace - I am working on one of 550 cells, and making many of the meshes myself too. And making it different from Oblivion, or other mods can be difficult, especially for you, when you are working within lore limitations. Having said so, unique meshes are not all important, its how you combine them that counts. For cities, it is harder, but I find that two existing resources can be combined, probably with a quick retexture, to create something that has an entirely different "feel" to either of the others. The same buildings can make an entirely different city, if say, cramped together with walkways overhead, like the souks of marakech, or built layer on layer into a cliff. Into the first, mix higher class houses, and the second, mud fortifications and walls, like a kasbar.

Also, if you are really struggling for resources, take a look at what can be achieved with SI resources. I mean, there are 3 different housing sets in SI, and retextuing can make loads more. Nobody seems to want to make mods SI dependant, but loooooads of people have it, and to be honest, if they don't, they should get it!

Anyway, great work, keep it up, I'm looking forward to this release (and when I finish my own mod, I'll finally allow myself to play it! XD) :goodjob: I'm sorry I can't contribute to this project, but if you are strapped for ideas about how to make any part of hammerfell feel unique, give me a shout, and I'll see if I can come up with anything :)

i did recently get SI, and there are indeed many sweet models in in. Most of the stuff is too unique to use strait up, but im really fond of the ruin tileset. i'll definitely look into retexturing it, it has potential. Rihad and Taneth are a prefect example of how the same meshes can be used in different ways. Nemon and I have completely different moddign styles, and the cities turned out very differently because of it.

just wanted to point out that we now have an IRC channel. we are located at #hammerfell on the Treeofworlds (irc.treeofworlds.net) network.

you can also get there over the internet http://atlantis.tellaerad.net/?channels=hammerfell. Someone is on almost always, feel free to drop by and chat about anything :)

cool :) ....I never understood people moaning about using SI as a requirement for mods...there are so many cool resources in SI which can be used ...especially for province mods...

the ruin tileset can be used without retexturing very well in swamp or jungle areas ( like Blackmarsh )... but I can imagine them as well with nice sand stone textures ...looking a bit like

the desert ruins in dark messiah....

i wouldnt use anything from SI strait up because its recognizable as having originated in a daedric dimension. You can explain cyrodiilic architecture in Hammerfell as imperial influence, but how would you explain architecture from a daedric realm?

Another progress report. I finished fixing up Rihad middle class interiors a couple of minutes ago. After those are merged all interiors under made under TR will have been appropriated. About half of those interiors have already been AI'd by Herenius Volsinius. He also covered Rihad's vagrants and outside sleepers. I've also been working on small fixes and updates of the city, and am almost finished. Rihad is really coming to life :)

Catharsis and Shadowbeast are making good progress on half of the Corten Mountains. We still have two claims (about 25 cells each) available for the region, so if you're interested in helping Hammerfell with exteriors this is the perfect place to start. I am also planing on putting up more Rihad interiors soon, so keep an eye out for those.

I've also compiled a http://z10.invisionfree.com/Hammerfell/index.php?showtopic=35. If youre a modeler and have a hour or two to spare, please drop by :)

I keep meaning to make movies and screenshots, but my LOD keeps turning out magenta. as soon as i fix that i'll have all sorts of eye candy.

Good to see it's making progress.
(Sorry I'm not offering any assistance, but I've only ever had a small play with the CS, so I don't really have any modding capability.

Ahhh, whew, finaly tracked this thread down...

Thats important as i happen to be one of the Hemmerfell Modders... YES REALLY
I am in fact working on 8-6 (STILL) trying to apply the same anol-retentive standards that i apply when making an interior, except to an exterior, and a rather BIG exterior at that! Sometimes my sleep-scedual suffers as a result...

I also happen to have had a hand in creating some of the concept art behind the scenes, and i for one am really eager to see how it turns out in game! Now if i could just get that interior concept work done... :P

What I would love to see ( sadly this will never happen I think ) is merging this version of Hammerfell with this :

Both mods are at a standstill, and both have so much quality work in them.

Agreed.

I mean look at this: http://api.ning.com/files/olT8wlcsZv*9SguHxrjWI-Dh1vj2rxIayVs7T3Of5LLgxx55ZkP2iZKw2uVuR3MjlE2dixn2O7-teKeW9GAXVg*eLtOIlNl7/ScreenShot64.bmp

And this Hammerfell team has the team to do it. (I'd offer help with stuff like cluttering and interiors but I'm already working on Black Marsh)

the reason that nothing like that would ever happen (i believe, correct me if im wrong N) is that Hammerfell uses the same very strict lore-friendly and detailed levels of standards that TR uses, and almost everything has been thought out, or concept art-ed, and so joining with another group isn't really a great idea, as their ideas and policies on lore and detail are very most likely different than that of our Hammerfell project.

I believe the topic of merging both mods has already been discussed a while back (between Broad0000 and TR). The ideas are very different and probably wouldn't work together very well.
Also on Broad0000's forums the last thing he said is that he'd been in a car accident and was sick for a while, so he hasn't worked on the mod and doesn't know what to do with it. And that post was from like 3 months ago.

It's a pretty mod, but I don't think it will see release.

I hope his injury was not as severe as when a car ran me down 26 years ago...it took me 15 to 20 years to recover!

a merge isnt possible and is not going to happen for various reasons which have already been discussed at length. i don't really feel like talking about them anymore.

anyways. school is picking up so i don't have as much time to make large progress. besides merging and error fixing and the like i've gotten back to working on Taneth. i'm moving some stuff around and adding detail, but most of the city is fully finished. i've also really gotten into AC1, and have been working on incorporating some of that nice free-roaming rooftop potential into the city. Going to go back and try region generation again this weekend, hopefully i'll have some success this time around.

Is Quagmire still going to be made?

almost certainly not. its a cool idea, but it was never really developed as a project. The levels that were completed look nice and work well, but they don't give off the same vibe as the concept art. i'm not going to pick it up while hammerfell is active, but i'm keeping it a possibility for when hammerfell is done or given up on.

if you've not yet seen it, TR's download section now contains a http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=download, stuffed full of some of the project's best concepts.

So does that mean content/resources were created for Quagmire?
