Well, the only rodent-like pet on the list is a rabbit. It's not a rodent, but like one (legomoph or whatever..its been a few years)

BUT

If'n you're talking about cute cuddly little pets, we've only had guinea pigs. They're pretty cheap, easy to maintain, pretty durable for a rodent, and willing to be picked up. Great sounds, too. Of the past 16 years of marriage, we've had cavvies for 13 of them.; wife had them while she was growing up.

Right now the pair is Jack and Spike. Cuties.

I've had rats before, they are very friendly and playful, kind of like little dogs. Easy to train too!

Hamsters! I had a hamster when I was in middle school named Harry, and he was so cute! Get it? Harry the hamster? Like hairy. I was a very clever boy.

Whichever of those you get, read lots of stuff about their habits and best habitat. Only one of those animals likes to be alone, and only the golden, or Syrian, member of that family.
That said, we've been keeping rats for more than five years now, and I wouldn't want to miss them. Who would get rid of our leftover vegetables, or amuse us with adorably intelligent behaviour? They invented footnut, for crying out loud!

I stopped that after running behind them dropping sulphurous stuff everywhere during the walk. Neighbours were complaining...

Guinea Pigs Ive got 4 currently. We bought one at a pet store after the one we had died. The other pig needed a companion so we got one and she turned out preggo. She had 3 babies one died. So now we have Gizmo, Snow, (Both who are girls) Haloti (Hes Albino) and Flacco (Both are male and snow's babies)

Also Guinea Pigs arent rodents either since they also have molar like teeth along with the front teeth.

I've had guinea pigs, mice, rats and rabbits, and I prefer rats to all of those. I've also worked at a pet store where I took care of hamsters and gerbils, so I've had experience with those as well. Rats are great, inquisitive and friendly and cute and sweet... if properly taught to be around humans. All of those pets require you to be with the pet starting from a very young age for it to grow social to humans.

Rabbits make a lot of noise at night. Gerbils and mice are really small and have a short life span, but if that doesn't bother you they're great. Out of the two of them, I prefer mice. Rats make great pets, I always used to have a rat or two on my shoulder regardless of what I was doing. I loved my rats. Guinea pigs are probably my second favorite out of all of these. Plump and cute and fun. Relatively easy care compared to rabbits, for instance, that have a really strict dietary recommendation. My guinea pigs ate just about anything made from plant materials, but rabbits you have to be careful with when feeding them. Hamsters I've had the least experience with, but I've never really liked them. Probably because I've only met antisocial, biting hamsters with finicky appetites.

I personally don't think that any animal that has to live in a small cage is suitable as a pet - for the animal's sake.

I'd say Hamsters. It svcks that they're illegal over here...

I (and by that I mean my sister) once had a bunch of Guinea pigs, but we eventually sold them all.

 the cage isn't small for the animal, it is a small animal, so a small cage is big for the animal, Capiche?

I disagree. I don't think the cage is big enough. We just have different opinions on what constitutes a good life and a big enough environment for the animal. Capiche?

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread, though, so I will leave it here. I just stating my general opinion on the subject.

These, coupled with the fact that all of them have a habit of [censored]ting everywhere, mean that I'll never own any of them. If I ever went nuts and decided to get one, I'd probably choose guinea pigs, just because I find them the cutest of the bunch.
