Hand to Hand-Able to use objects?

Post » Wed Aug 19, 2009 1:11 am

The major disadvantage Hand to Hand gives the player in Oblivion is the lack of weapons that you can use, which are none. Ok, I understand Hand to Hand only means your hands, but it should be named unarmed instead. Making weapons out of everything, a torch, a plank, a branch, skeleton arm, human leg, watermelons, chairs, chains you name it! This would make it fun and versatile to use this skill. Sneak attacks could involve knocking out the target instantly, depending on foe. What ja think? Tell me everything about Hand-to-Hand, experience of it and what you want from it.

Poll edited for clearer outcome reading.

I think iron knuckles is a good idea, but I don't like the idea of using weapons. Maybe adding in throws and kicks, but not actual physical weapons.

The only thing i would like from hand to hand is to change and show acording to your skill, So lets say your level 10 in the skill, Your stance and typical punches look like a common street thug trying to hit butterflys, The more you use it, Your animations and stance would change to encompass it, So you start to look more Bruce Lee style, Allso factoring in training from different people, learning new moves in the form of a spell from them perhaps?, last thing i want is to button mash.

I think it should be more like martial arts. It should be the fastest and quietest form of attack.

You should be able to use Spiked gauntlets, iron knuckles etc. You should also be able to kick and do other things besides punching.
Using items like chairs would kind of defeat the purpose of hand to hand...

I always wished that Sam Fisher type stealth kills could be done, I wanted to go sneaking around dungeons and coming up from behind to snap the necks of bandits with my bare hands. Iron knuckles are ok too, but more than that seems like weapon use.

I agree with this post, and put kicking in while we are at it, and slide kicking.

Might be true, but we don't have to care about that, the question is, would you like it, if it worked? It would be so awesome to pick up the head of the skeleton you just killed and throw it at another skeleton :D

I want special h2h-moves, and kicks. There should also be fist weapons, and h2h skill should also make fist weapons more deadly. Your gloves should also have an impact on this.

I would like it as being able to 'interact' with your target. With the option's of performing grapple's, trips, kick's, steal, and be able to use it anywhere.. So it's not an option to hotkey, but what the atttack button does when you're weapon's sheathed.

With the object's i'd like an improved interaction system with them from the previous game. If each item had a weight that you could use in stealth to drop or throw. It sounds difficult but a natural way or interacting with each item, whether it's to throw it or bring it in. Or set it up as a trap.
Oblivion's touch system was a little wonky, but I think it showed the birth of something that could be very dynamic. Like the radiant AI

You know I always wondered why those spiky Daedric gauntlets never gave me more HtH damage...

Hand-to-Hand should incorporate something other than just fists. It seems rather unrealistic to block a blow from an axe or sword using your bare fists. And look at Fallout, the unarmed skill incorporated brass knuckles, power fists, spiked knuckles and New Vegas added even more upon that.

I like the idea of using a torch as a weapon, it's a simple weapon and during the days before electricity torches were used by peasant families all the way up to royal families. So they were common and obtainable and everyone knows fire is dangerous :flamethrower:

Interacting from stealth mode, steal their weapon yes, but that would require both sneak and unarmed skill. But when an ogre is after you, you do not want to use Hand-toHand in Oblivion. So there should be something more, like enchantable knuckles? Or then the enviromental use system, picking up rocks as you run, throwing them backwards and even using the rock to make more serious damage by holding on to it and ram it hard into the ogres head, hoping it's not too thick. :P

I think it should be fists only. Yes, the ability to use the surroundings as a weapon would be great, altougth I think it should be included in the blunt category, not in hand-to-hand.

Hence why I would want it to be named unarmed, so it can include everything that are not weapons per ce, like a fork or plate :)

If your fists are strong enough to bust through boards and cinder-blocks they can stand up to any ogre!

They never reach the state where they would out damage a blunt weapon...

I think its an amazing idea! It would be super awesome if you could use the surroundings as weapon like in any zombie game like Left for Dead :D
Also when in sneak mode you should have the ability to strangle someone. That would be EPIC!!! SUPER AWESOMENESS :trophy: WIN

And if people doesnt like the idea of chairs and rocks being hand to hand, then it could possibly be a spell called telekinesis like in Bioshock! WHOA :celebration:

I think it'd be cool if there was a button you could press to pick it up and instantly make it your weapon. Maybe like a double tap of the grab key. Also, you need to be able to throw anything that's in you hands. Maybe if your right hand is empty and you have a weapon in your right it automatically gets picked up by your left hand.

Brass knuckles and the like, yes.

Random items, no. Reason? IMPOSSIBLE to implement well and doesn't make sense for what the skill is.

Hand to hand could use:

-Brass knuckles
-Claws
-Sai

and my personal favourite

-KATAR DAGGERS!!!!

Well then can we have a skill for it? If I get into a fight in lose quarters, and I lose my weapon (broken or disarmed or whatever) I'd like to be able to pick up a chair or whatever. And...it's not impossible to implement. Algorithms algorithms algorithms, or just give each object a 1H or 2H attribute and give it 1 or 2 grab points respectively.
