want canned animations for kills with counters, go play Turok, and I say no for this in Brink, it is good the way it is.

I think the best melee system has to be halo reach.
Homefront, CoD, and other shooters offer a quick buttstroke but reach has that assassination which just fills you with "YEAH GOT YOU!" excitement I love, and which I'm sure many others love as well. Might be considered a canned animation but if it's quick enough not to slow you down I think it would be rather nice to have some kind of melee take down. Turok was SUPER slow, so the knife attacks were really annoying in multiplayer.

Melee has always been something of a bonus I think for most shooters. Yes they offer a quick hit but even so, the majority of players even within melee range just fire like tony montana at an enemy that close.

If they don't have super cooler melee attacks it won't bother me. If they do, it'll just be another bonus to an already awesome game.
Just thought of something tho, how cool would it be to be able to vault over something,(or someone) for a melee/instakill type of thing. run+smartbutton+enemy= vaultkill =b

Assassination were fun until you get killed in the middle of it.

No instant melee kills period. There is a slide tackle but I do like the concept of dropping down on someone from above and knock them from above a la Riddike style.

Best way to input Melee combat sequence is obviously hold SMART, Melee the target, Brink will then turn into a 2D Side Scrolling Fight game. ;D UNLEASH DEM COMBOS

No canned animations. There are already knives, gunbutts, and slide tackles. Enough melee.

stuff like this gets boring fast , look at brutal melees on kz3 , you get sick of seein it.
