Hand To Hand Combat?

Post » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:27 pm

Now I know there may or may not be any hand to hand combat in Brink.
But wouldn't it be a bit interesting to have hand to hand combat?

Sure maybe irritatiing, but like a operative jumps on you about to thrust a knife in your neck and you counter attack by reversing the attack and killing your enemy instead?
Idk just a thought

Well for me at least the idea of an operative, light body, quick and sneaky in a way that runs behind enemy lines and doing really close combat-body to body,is gaining ground in my mind.

I don't see anything annoying in hand to hand combat,if it's in the game,it's in the game. We're here to enjoy the game to it's fullest,at least i am,not just a part of it.

No I don't think it would. Even if there was a counter for everything, because then that would go on forever.

Yeah I agree. If you think about it...

Soldier attempts to punch Operative's face
Operative dodges and pulls out knife
Soldier attempts to hit Operative with weapon
Operative tries to slash Soldier and Soldier dodges
Soldier tries to uppercut Operative with gun
Operative doges
Etc.

I think the only thing that would actually stop that, would be someone else interrupting it and shooting the enemy.

I COUNTER YOUR COUNTER-COUNTERATTACK WITH A COUNTER-COUNTER-COUNTERATTACK OF MY OWN

But it'd be cool to have two people slashing at each other witht hier knives, not dealing any damage, just slashing knives like the generic anime fight scenes where the two enemies talk while running and casually deflecting every slash and returning with a slash of thier own.

Not if they employed a quick button sequence. Like player 1 (initiated the fight) hits the melee....start cinematic. Then a random button shows. The first to press gets the kill. That is a melee attack with a 50/50 chance for either one to come out victorious.

This could all take place in a matter of 2.25 secs. Which is plenty of time to become aware and to ready for the random button. Also gives a team mate enough chance to "rescue" a brother in trouble.

The other thing would be less melee since most people aren't willing to go on chance for losing something they started but quite possibly can't finish.

I like this idea. The cinematic wouldn't last long, theres enough time for a team mate to help out, and it gives both fighters a chance to get a kill.

No canned animations. There are already knives, gunbutts, and slide tackles. Enough melee.

I could maybe support this if melee hits were one shot kills like in other games. But since they aren't, I don't think it's necessary.

EDIT: Grammatical error.

I have heard that a melee hit on a knocked-down opponent is an instant kill, which I think is a little overpowered. I'm wondering if double-pummelling will be a common close-quarters phenomenon if that is the case.

A knocked-down guy can still shoot. You could unload two Mossington blasts on a Light trying to rush you.

Plus, I think there's a bit of a cooldown between successive melee hits.

I'm pretty sure only level 20 knocked-down guys can shoot - something to think about

That's Downed Fire. You can still shoot while knocked-down. On the other hand, you cannot shoot while incapacitated unless you get Downed Fire, which is a level 20/rank 5 ability.

That is when they are incapped.

Downed is being knocked to the round by melee or grenade blast.

Anybody think of using something similar to the brutal melee in Killzone 2?

Well the thing is if an Operative sneaks up and knifes you it isnt going to OHK you unless you are a light body weight unbuffed so most likely you will be able to turn around and counter the attack anyways if they try and melee you.

Let Battlefield 3 have those weird tussles.
BRINK is a shooter at heart and thus you should use your gun, not your knife or hands.

I have heard that a melee hit on a knocked-down opponent is an instant kill, which I think is a little overpowered.

A melee-attack on an INCAPACITATED enemy is an instant kill. Which is not overpowered, because technically he is almost dead.

They've implied a melee attack on a knocked-down enemy is an instant incap as well.

Which requires another melee attack to finish them off, then.

If i were able to use hand to hand combat i would rip peoples throats out, which is an istant kill, and out of fear you reset to rank 1 and i dtink your blood that sprays on my face for infinite POWER!

But that would be "cheating" they said, that would ruin the game they said! "Think of the kids!" They said!!!

Yup, but they can either get up or shoot you. Think of it as getting knocked over in a fighting game.

We were already past the "getting up" part.

1 melee attack (not including knife) to knock target down.

2nd hit incaps.

3rd hit kills.

We were talking about after the 2nd hit, not the first.

Thats true, but I was talking about the system itself, not the canned animations.

Example: Player A and player B run into each other, they are close enough to melee, the first one to press the melee button executes the takedown.

Simple enough.

This would not be the same as a normal melee attack.
