I just don't understand how some here gleefully celebrate the loss of play styles.

How do you know we can't still kill a dragon with H2H? I mean as much as we would be killing it with a sword anyways, along side the shouts.

Yeah, how could they remove punching? It's such a basic action.

Agreed. It is also the "unlimited" weapon of the series. Since everything else can break, and you can be out of Magicka, they need something that you can always fall back on. Some games use unlimited pistol ammo, others use knives, some use fists. They need something that you can attack with in the most dire situations.

Alright, what does swinging a one handed or two handed weapon have anything to do with swinging your fists? Simple, it doesn't. So it really doesn't make sense that H2H be moved into 2H/1H weapons. Swinging a weapon really has nothing to do with the ablility to throw a punch. The only logical solution is to give it a skill, but we know thats been removed. :sadvaultboy:

Using a dagger is completely different than using a mace, which is completely different than useing a longsword. It makes sense to move it to 1 handed, because it is a weapon, and it is in 1 hand at a time. If you are completely unarmed, then it would be "dual-wielding" your fists.

Oh a real life explanation. Nice. You do realize this is a game where we're shooting fireballs, yelling at dragons to knock them down, and using enchanted weapons right?

When Skyrim comes out I'm going to make a video of my character killing a dragon with just his bare fists, with no cheats.

And yet, you'll still have the ability to kill that with a mace, a dagger, or any other weapon you choose because they all do damage no matter what you're attacking with. No reason you shouldn't be able to fight unarmed if you so choose.

I would put my money into 1-handed. Then you can punch with one hand, and still cast magic with the other, or use a shield, or have a dagger.

Swinging a dagger is more closely related to swinging a mace and a longsword. In all of those, your swinging an object thats in your hand. With H2H, your just swinging your fists/kicking if they would have added it and if they would have put more effort into H2H, it would be a lot different. Its already different enough. Swinging nothing in your hands and swinging a possibly 20 lb. mace are much different.

Perhaps the skill has been removed, but the style lives on in perks! Maybe you get perks to improve your damage, improve your attack speed hand2hand, and maybe teach you new kinds of punchs and kicks.

Yeah, or that. Or both, who knows. Fact is, all we know is that the skill is removed, not the action. I think figuring that you can't punch someone is jumping the gun.

Side note: do we know if archery as a skill is out? Is that 2-handed or a separate skill?

I would consider that "dual-wielding," just like having a sword in each hand.

Swinging nothing in your hands and swinging a possibly 20 lb. mace are much different.

A mace (and all blunt weapons) are about generating as much speed as possible to do crushing damage. Daggers and short swords are much more stabbing weapons, with smoe slashing. Speed doesn't matter as much for damage, location is important, and it is designed to be drawn across the skill to slice. If you are using a dagger like you use a mace, you are not going to be very effective.

Maces/Swords/Axes are all going to have about 3-5 perks in the 1-handed skill tree. It makes more sense that H2H would have a couple there as well than having 10 or so in a completely seperate skill.

I'm going to assume that you can choose if you want one or two handed fighting. If you use one handed fighting you have the option of blocking with the other hand or using spells or something.

I still don't see what your getting at. I don't think they're going to make it impossible to kill dragons with your fists. This is about the removal of the skill, not the feature. Just like blades were removed as a skill, now swords will be either one handed or two handed weapons. H2H will be the same.

I would consider that "dual-wielding," just like having a sword in each hand.

Oh true, I see what your saying now.

Still feels a bit weird though because in real life it would probably be important to train both of your hands. But gameplay wise it makes sense as one handed.

According to the admittedly nebulous statements from devs and Pete, we can assume that you will be able to punch one way or another.
And I swear, I will make a character that totally depends on it, no matter how weak it is. Just out of spite.

I'm not saying I hope your wrong. If its the only way H2H is going to be in the game, I'm all for it. But swinging a weapon takes a different technique then swinging your fists. I agree, maces are much different than daggers and swords, and all of these are much more different then swinging your fists. A skill for H2H makes much more sense.
