Hand to Hand Removed... He-Man died today....

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 9:24 am

who the hell is gonna take on a hoard of axe wielding, heavy armor wearing demons with his fists? Fantasy is NOT interchangeable with ilogical.

Enough said. I'm fine with using fists in a bar fight, but that's about it.

Damn. They just keep cutting stuff down in the name of "streamlining". I'm beginning to think they really have no clue what they're doing and they're just gonna wing it for the next 5 months and 8 days.

Wait so is it just the skill they removed(meaning you just punch at a predetermined power)? Or is there also no hand-to-hand melee combat at all ???

Early after the announcement, Pete Hines tweeted after being asked about Hand-2-Hand combat something like "No. This is the only part of the game we are trying to make worse."
Maybe it was no sarcasm after all.

If there truly is no longer real H2H combat, my euphoria for Skyrim moves down to like 10%. They say they add so much more class diversity by adding perks, yet they shoehorn everything into the 3 archtype classes. I don't want to be a warrior, a mage or a thief. I want my monk for Shor's sake.

I don't like that Hand to Hand is gone, but I'm fine with it as long as we can still punch. There was nothing more satisfying in Oblivion that running around naked and punching people - that sounds exactly what Skyrim should be about!

...I think a lot of people think Skyrim and ninja monks from D&D are the same thing for some reason
youre going to be able to punch things, people
its just not a skill and will probably just be for certain or desperate situations
and hey maybe even a few perks to turn your SKYRIM character into a D&D hitmoncan monk... for whatever reason youd want to do that
don get your panties all wadded up

I think this is a great idea. No more leveling up punching as a weapon skill. You just pull out your fists and unleash your strength on em.

Right. Like their going to remove the most basic ability any being with free limbs can do.

I criticize Bethesda often as I can and much more than I praise them but comeon.

Some sort of "unarmed" will be there. And let's keep Fallout talk out of it. This has nothing to do with it. Might aswell bring up Beth's Terminator games.

It was stated the skill was removed.
I think you can still punch, and it will probably do a set damage based on.. well something.

Other wise they'd have to make you have like a crappy dagger at all times, or just not be able to bring up your hands at all.

I expect hand to hand is just a generic abiltiy like woodcutting and that race tweaks its basic effectiveness.

I highly doubt fist fighting was completely removed most likely just the skill itself. It makes sense to me as it was pretty much useless anyway considering you fight sword/spell/bow wielding enemies and most people would be naturally inclined to choose one of those forms of combat anyway since most people wouldn't choose fist fighting over a cool shiny sword. I can't think of any time where I actually used it seriously myself other than to get easy strength boosts for leveling at later levels.

Perhaps there are different types of unarmed fighting.

Martial arts type moves in Sneak, big barbarian swings and smashes in Two Hand, focused boxing jabs and hooks in One Hand?

Or maybe, depending on what skills you specialize in, the game will adjust what type of unarmed fighting your character can do? Sort of like a last resort thing available to every archetype if all your weapons break and you're miles from civilization. A fallback option.

I have a hard time believing they've completely removed unarmed combat from the game even though the skill is gone.

If I had a dollar for every time somebody on this forum posted that they're glad that something's been eliminated simply because they themselves never used it, I could probably fund my own game.

True. Frankly I think horses are totally superfluous, never used them, never will, but some people like them. Why should I care?

It's still there. Just not a separate skill.

ha!

Now that you've [censored] over attributes, and you've cut the h2h skill, can you go back to trying adventure games, Bethesda? Action-Adventure sounds like what you're trying to achieve, anyhow. If heavy/light armor make the skill roster, and h2h does not, then they've tunneled deep into [censored] territory.
