Hand-To-Hand; Will it be useful?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:53 pm

All my saiyan characters would be very upset if hand to hand was taken out. Though, it could deffinitly use an overhall. Add some different styles maybe, or at least give it enough special moves as perks so you could make something close to your own style.

I suppose they could fuse it with blunt weapons and then only have three weapon types: ranged, blade and blunt. Then they could use stats such as strength and endurance to determine your effectiveness with light and heavy weapons etc.

If it isn't than it's probably something you can specialize in via perks. I think it is it's own skill though.

I made an Argonian monk that uses a bow and hand to hand, and really it was fun, hand-to-hand could use some work, but it should be weaker than using a weapon, and it should not be removed from the game.

IMO hand to hand should be used -

For bar-fights and such, or against any enemy you're trying to subdue rather than kill. Since Skyrim will be very Nordic, I'd assume they're doing something with bar-fights.
In unison with weapons - being able to use technique for kicks/trips to knock people off balance/cripple them
For deadly sneak attacks vs. many enemies, such as neck snaps.
Possibly, perhaps along with acrobatics, playing some part in dodging.

That way it wouldn't be trivial to 90+% of players because it gains versatility instead of just being another weapon skill with bad damage compared to other weapons.

well in oblivion it was usless.and sence there is 18 skills in skyrim instead of 20 in oblivion, it is very possible that hand to hand could be completely taken out as far as the skill itself goes

Its basiclly confirmed there won't be skills like blade, blunt, etc Its 1 or 2 handed with perks to specialize.

look at pg.55 of the game informer. we have 8 confirmed skills.alchemy, destruction, illusion, enchanting(replace mysticism i suppose),alteration, restoration, conjuration and smithing.so that leaves only 10 other skills.probally at least 2 weapon related skills like (one handed, two handed whatever),sneak skill so about 6-7 other unknown skills.

I think it'll have much more utility this time around. One who specializes in hand to hand should be able to grapple and throw the opponent to the ground, disarm the opponent, etc.

Killing someone with a punch when they're wearing steel plate armor wouldn't make much sense IMHO.

Would anyone seriously want hand-to-hand over polearms/spears?

Gohan vs Dragon
Gohan will win ever time. <_< Even without energy attacks. Just throwing that out there. Infact, Gohan was so good he trained a dragon. Got it to do tricks, and even dance.

I was just thinking to myself: "Hand to Hand in Oblivion was utterly useless, people did create mods for it though, but that made it overpowered"

So, Will Hand-To-Hand be better than TES4 or stay the same?

I rather like H2H combat. And for me it wasn't that bad in Oblivion, Sure you needed a lot of practice to be powerful enough to beat some serious opponnent with it. After a certain level you could bring down your foe and from this point it was just a matter of time till you beat him/her finally.

What I would like to see is some more moves, e.g punches to the head and to torso (or maybe below the belt?!?).

I think you are a little confused here, there are no Z fighters on Nirn.

They announced you can duel people... and it shouldn't have to be to the death so hand to hand is gonna be fun.

They wouldn't, unless they're tards. Weapon skills in Skyrim are 1-handed and 2-handed according to game informer. Polearms would hopefully be under 2 handed if they are in.

As far as hand-to-hand/Unarmed go, they could have like bladed gauntlets, Knuckle dusters, or even better, CLAWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Duel wielding claws would make me feel like some kind of beast. Of course were-wolves you could really be a beast....

Except for my character who I pretend is super saiyan.
In Morrowind I flew around with levitate and slashed people down.
In Oblivion I ran at super sonic speed while 1-shotting people.

Well that′s all fine and dandy :P but you can′t expect anything that wouldn′t fit within the theme of the TES universe. Don′t worry about not being able to throw punches though, you most likely will be able to do that.

Hand-to-hand was useless in Morrowind
Really? In my experience hand-to-hand in Morrowind was redicilously effective against single or double opponents. The skill improved extremely quickly, and the trick was simply to survive until the enemy fatigue got so low their chance-to-hit was reduced to nothing. And once they were down, they would never even get to attempt to hit you again. At high levels of unarmed skill, with the attack speed of punches, there was hardly a way to lose
