Hand-To-Hand; Will it be useful?

If I come to a town and they tell me there is a dragon in a cave outside the town. I should be allowed to strip down and fight the dragon bare handed, Beowulf style.

I loved punching out people's blood in Oblivion... As the scout in TF:2 would say;
"OH MY GOD! HE PUNCHED OUT, ALL MY BLOOD!"

Even if you were a really strong person I don't see how punching someone who is wearing full armour would be effective.

I can't see how fists would ever be useful unless the person is not wearing armour or perhaps you have some sort of gauntlet with spikes or something.

pretty simple. it doesnt have to be just fists!
someone well versed in hand to hand combat, should resemble an MMA fighter. good at boxing, kicking and grappling. how cool would it be to grab a guys arm. and whip him into a wall. disarming him at the same time. follow this up with leg trip. and face stomp his ass. besides the traditional fantasy monk uses something called ki energy to make his strikes more deadly. now TES doesnt have ki. but im sure they could come up with something to make martial arts skeptics see the light.

hand to hand combat can be extremely brutal. but to be so in TES it would need so much focus. and this probly wont happen.

i hope it will be because i am a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo and i love hand to hand pawnage of enemies so i hope they involve some sweet new kicks and punches to make it a useful skill

yeah i just hope they r not tkd techniques...lol.. or we'd lose every time.

Hand to Hand wasn't useful partially because there was no way to augment it (weapons). Fallout showed them that you CAN make good weapons for hand to hand, so we'll likely see things like claws, spiked fists, etc.

i wonder if they'll even have it with there only being 18skills, but that can be another topic...If they add better perks or "unarmed" weapons like fallout 3 and NV it would be great.weapons as in numb chucks maybe...

im sorry, did you just say NUMB chucks?

...oh, god.

its spelled NUNCHAKU... or the usual variation english people use "NUNCHUCKS"

but definitely not NUMB CHUCKS.

sorry, but stuff like that really irritates me...

anyway... i like hand-to-hand, i really hope they dont remove it... they could make dragon-claw gauntlets or something, to make fist-fighting more deadly...

Honestly? Who would ever guess that it was spelled "Nunchaku"? Lay off a bit bro

Would punching someone really be better then hitting them with a sword?

I liked it in Morrowind, how you would knock the person down then beat them to death.

But I really think it should be a skill for situations in which you have no weapon, like set-pieces, for example a mission in which you are knocked out and have to escape with no weapons, armor or clothes, haha.

I never play a TES game without a hand-to-hand character at least once. It brings a new level of challenge and it's a nice break from your standard sword fighter that you always use, making the gameplay a bit more unique.
I think it definitely needs kind of an overhaul though, make the combat moves more variable and let us use our legs, knees, elbows, etc to attack. It could be a lot of fun.

That was not only in Morrowind, it was like that in Oblivion as well...

Many hand to hand fighting techniques were designed to fight vs people with weapons. A master with a blade vs a master of the fist are equals.

i bet money its not in the 18skills

Actually, I think it will make it. Of the 21 skills of Oblivion. Mysticism is gone already so that leaves two. The ones that are left that reasonably can be cut are Hand to Hand, Block, Athletics and Acrobatics. I was about to say that Athletics and Acrobatics are the most likely to go, but considering that increasing Acrobatics is somewhat useful, I'd think that Athletics and Block [Block being better as a player's skill type of skill] are the most likely to go.

I was just thinking to myself: "Hand to Hand in Oblivion was utterly useless, people did create mods for it though, but that made it overpowered"

So, Will Hand-To-Hand be better than TES4 or stay the same?

STAY THE SAME! Nothing i like more than running around with my 100 hand-to-hand skill to punch out a svcker!

Im sure there will be hand to hand combat. Id like to be able to do more than just punching and blocking. For instance, when an enemy comes at you with a sword and swings at you, you should be able to block their swing by grabbing thier wrist and either knocking the sword out of their hand/s or grab their wrist and in one swift motion, devert the sword so you sink the sword right through their stomach or run the sword through their lower jaw and out through the top of their heads. THAT would make an awesome finishing move for hand to hand combat.

I found H2H to be very useful, and fun in Oblivion, since it was the least laggiest and fastest weapon at my disposal. I could fly around the room w/ high speed throwing punches like fastballs into people's faces. I say, keep it

This sounds a little extreme but it needs a more visceral edge to the unarmed combat. Nord fights should be bloody and dirty i.e savagely kicking someone gone down in the ribs, using throws, disarming and finishing moves, rather than simply having punch ups and scratch fights. I dont think you'd show much mercy to someone coming at you with a sword if you were unarmed.

Or, to borrow a quote from higher in the thread, a swift kick in the nunchucks :bonk:

I agree with the idea that Nordic fights should be brutal, unsophisticated and somewhat dirty. We definitely need a head butt option for one thing.

Perhaps they could make a fighting pit where you could grapple against opponents for money and fame - a Skyrim version of the Arena in Cyrodiil

Hand to hand should be revamped and reloaded in Skyrim...in all honesty, it is an extremely important skill in combat. I could think of a million reasons for its uses, but the most important would be a matter of resources: say you're fighting a monster, and your sword and shield break. Without that protection, what will you resort to?

To really make hand-to-hand successful, Beth has to make it actually look gruesome, and they have to give players a reason to resort to it (weapons can break easily, for example).

H2H is terrible in TES IV. I hope it's as good as Fallout 3 and New Vegas' was.

If a two armed man uses unarmed does that mean he will have to raise his 2 handed skill?

If a one armed man uses unarmed does that mean he will have to raise his 1 handed skill?

A true unarmed master is a man who has no arms. So he cannot be classified as such within the 2 categories.

Does that make any sense?

Yeah, with the dual wielding weapon system I think hand-to-hand will be made redundant, or just a derivative skill based on your strength.

Maybe there will be perk were you can disarm opponents if one or two hands are empty.

how so? if u use jus a one handed sword what ur other hand used for??? if the perks lik paralzing palm return, using a sword in one hand and ur fist as the other would be pretty good

I really just want the ability to break some people's necks in stealth mode with hand-to-hand. Of course, that opens up the discussion of whether stealth attacks can be finishing moves at the same time. But I can dream, can't I? I don't use hand-to-hand normally, but with the ideas that Bethesda seems to have may get me to change my mind.

I think hand to hand should be useless, in reality there is no real good reason to use it. What kind of person would run into battle with there fists? Seems pretty stupid to me. Sure they can keep it in the game but don't make it a skill.
